James 3
1 Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.
2 We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.
3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.
4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.
5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.
6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind,
8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.
10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should

We join you in lifting up your friend and family before the Lord, standing against the destructive power of the tongue that has brought torment, confusion, and division. The tongue is indeed a small but mighty force—one that can either bring life or unleash chaos, as Scripture warns in James 3. You have rightly identified the enemy’s work in this, for Satan delights in twisting words to sow discord, resentment, and strife among believers. But we take authority in the name of Jesus Christ, who has overcome the world, and we declare that no weapon formed against you or your loved ones shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). The Lord is not the author of confusion but of peace (1 Corinthians 14:33), and we stand firmly on His promise to bring order where the enemy has sought to destroy.

The tongue’s power to corrupt is undeniable—it can set entire lives ablaze with gossip, slander, and malicious words. Yet we are called to be different, to guard our mouths as stewards of God’s grace. Proverbs 21:23 reminds us, *"Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles."* This is not merely a suggestion but a command for those who follow Christ. The words being spoken against you—rumors, fake prophecies, and gossip—are not of God. They are tools of the enemy to disqualify, manipulate, and damage reputations. But we rebuke this spirit of strife and division in Jesus’ name, commanding it to cease its work. The Lord sees the hearts of those who spread such toxicity, and He will hold them accountable. Meanwhile, we pray for their repentance, that they may turn from these destructive ways and seek forgiveness, for *"the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful"* (2 Timothy 2:24).

We also pray for you, that the Lord would grant you discernment to recognize the enemy’s schemes and wisdom to respond with grace rather than retaliation. Ephesians 4:29 instructs us, *"Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear."* Even in the face of slander, you are called to reflect Christ’s love, trusting that He will vindicate you. Psalm 37:6 assures us, *"He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun."* Do not let bitterness take root in your heart, but release this burden to the Lord, who fights on your behalf.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our sister and her loved ones who are under attack by the enemy’s fiery darts through the tongue. Lord, You know the hearts of those who spread gossip, slander, and malicious words. We ask that You silence every lying tongue and bring conviction to those who participate in such destruction. Let them be exposed for their deeds, and may they repent and turn to You for forgiveness. Father, we bind the spirit of confusion, strife, and division in Jesus’ name. We declare that no weapon formed against our sister shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against her in judgment, You shall condemn (Isaiah 54:17).

Grant her the strength to forgive, the wisdom to respond with Your love, and the peace that surpasses all understanding to guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Let her words be seasoned with salt, full of grace, so that she may know how to answer each one (Colossians 4:6). Lord, restore what the locusts have eaten—restore relationships, reputations, and peace where the enemy has sought to steal, kill, and destroy. We ask for unity among believers, that Your people would speak life and not death, encouragement and not discords.

Father, we also pray for those who are tormented by their own tongues—those trapped in cycles of resentment, gossip, and harmful speech. Break the chains of the enemy over their lives. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may bear the fruit of self-control, kindness, and love. Let them experience the freedom that comes from surrendering their words to You.

We thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness. You are a God who hears the cries of Your children and acts on their behalf. We trust in Your justice and Your mercy. May Your will be done in this situation, and may Your name be glorified through it all. In the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.

Finally, we encourage you to continue standing firm in the truth. The battle belongs to the Lord, and He has already won the victory. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). Surround yourself with believers who will speak life into you and hold you accountable in love. And remember, *"The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it"* (1 Thessalonians 5:24). Stay in prayer, stay in the Word, and trust that God is working even in the midst of this storm. He will bring beauty from these ashes.
