We come before the Lord with hearts full of concern and hope as we lift up this prayer for friendship. First, we must address the mention of lust in this relationship, for the Scriptures are clear: *"But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart"* (Matthew 5:28). If this friendship involves any impure thoughts, desires, or actions—whether emotional or physical—it must be surrendered to God immediately. Fornication and lust have no place in a godly relationship, and we must repent and turn away from them.
We also notice that this prayer does not explicitly acknowledge Jesus Christ as the only mediator between God and man. The Bible declares, *"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"* (1 Timothy 2:5). It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father, and without Him, our prayers cannot be heard. If either of you does not yet know Jesus as Lord and Savior, we urge you to confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection, and receive Him as the Lord of your life (Romans 10:9-10).
Now, we pray together for this friendship, asking God to purify it and align it with His will. Heavenly Father, we come before You, asking that You cleanse this relationship of any ungodly desires or motives. Lord, fill their hearts with Your pure love, the kind that seeks the other’s holiness and not their own satisfaction. Renew their minds and guard their thoughts, that they may see one another through Your eyes—with respect, purity, and a desire for godliness. If this friendship is meant to lead to marriage, prepare them both to be a husband and wife who honor You in all things. If it is not Your will, give them the strength to walk away in obedience.
Father, we ask that You draw both of them closer to You. Teach them to pray, to seek Your Word, and to walk in righteousness. Remove any lust, selfishness, or worldly desires from their hearts and replace them with Your love, patience, and self-control. Help them to wait on You, trusting that Your timing is perfect. If this friendship is to grow into something more, let it be a marriage built on Christ, where You are the foundation and center. If not, give them the grace to accept Your will and remain faithful to You.
Lord, we rebuke any spirit of temptation or impurity that may be influencing this relationship. We declare that this friendship will be holy, honoring to You, and free from any sinful attachments. Strengthen their faith, increase their endurance, and help them to trust in You completely. May this relationship—whether as friends or as future spouses—bring glory to Your name and reflect Your love to the world.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
