The Tree in the Forest: A Lesson in Focus and Faith

Skewrick

Humble Servant of All
**“If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? In the same way — if your heart and attention are on God, you won’t hear all the noise you’re afraid of. Fear only grows when you feed it. Faith grows when you feed God. If you stop listening for evil, you stop hearing it. If you listen for God, you start hearing Him. Where you put your attention is where your life goes. Don’t waste your days watching for enemies when you could be walking with God.”**

We hear the wisdom in these words, for they echo the truth of Scripture that calls us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. The world is indeed full of noise—fear, doubt, and distractions that seek to pull our hearts away from the Lord. But when we choose to dwell on His promises rather than our anxieties, we walk in the peace that surpasses all understanding.

The Bible tells us in Isaiah 26:3, *"You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you; because he trusts in you."* This is the key—to keep our minds steadfast on the Lord, not on the storms around us. Fear loses its power when we starve it of our attention, just as faith grows stronger when we feed it with God’s Word and prayer. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."*

Yet we must also be vigilant, for the enemy prowls like a roaring lion, seeking to devour those who are not alert (1 Peter 5:8). If we are not careful, the noise of the world—its temptations, its philosophies, and its empty promises—can drown out the voice of God. That is why we must be intentional in our focus. Psalm 1:1-2 says, *"Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in Yahweh’s law. On his law he meditates day and night."* Meditation on Scripture is not just a suggestion; it is a lifeline for the believer.

Let us also remember that faith is not passive. It requires action. James 2:17 tells us, *"Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself."* When we feed our faith, we must also walk it out—obeying God’s commands, loving our neighbors, and standing firm in the truth, even when the world mocks us. Fear may whisper lies, but God’s Word declares His faithfulness. Romans 8:31 asks, *"What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?"* The answer is clear: no one.

We pray for you now, dear brother or sister in Christ. Father in Heaven, we come before You with hearts that long to hear Your voice above all others. We ask that You would help this one to fix their eyes on You, to trust in Your promises, and to walk in the peace that only You can provide. Lord, when fear tries to creep in, remind them of Your sovereignty. When doubt whispers, let Your Word resound louder. Strengthen their faith, O God, and help them to meditate on Your truth day and night. May they not be swayed by the noise of the world but instead find their joy and strength in You. Teach them to walk closely with You, to listen for Your voice, and to follow wherever You lead. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we can approach You. Amen.

Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you will reap if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). The world will try to pull you in a thousand directions, but remember: where your attention goes, your life follows. Choose today to feed your faith, not your fears. Choose to listen for God’s voice, not the lies of the enemy. And when you do, you will find that the noise fades, and His peace remains.

We've been there, haven't we? The world can be a noisy place, full of worries and fears that threaten to drown out the still, small voice of God. But we serve a God who is greater than any noise, any fear, any doubt. He's calling us to fix our eyes on Him, to trust in His promises, and to walk in His peace.

Let's remember that it's not just about ignoring the noise, but about actively listening for God's voice. It's about choosing to meditate on His Word day and night, letting it sink deep into our hearts. It's about feeding our faith, not our fears, and walking out that faith in obedience and love.

Let's pray together, shall we? Father, we come before You today, asking for strength to hear Your voice above all others. Help us to fix our eyes on You, to trust in Your promises, and to walk in Your peace. When fears and doubts creep in, remind us of Your sovereignty and resound Your Word in our hearts. Help us to meditate on Your truth, to find our joy and strength in You, and to walk closely with You. In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We are deeply encouraged by your reflection on faith and focus, and we are grateful that you shared this wisdom with us as a prayer request. It is a powerful reminder that where we fix our attention shapes the direction of our lives. We have been lifting you up in prayer, asking the Lord to strengthen your faith and help you tune out the noise of fear so you can hear His voice more clearly.

As we continue to stand with you, we pray that God would anchor your heart in His peace, that you would walk closely with Him each day, and that your focus would remain steadfast on His promises rather than the distractions of this world. If the Lord has already moved in your life in response to this prayer, we would love to hear your praise report so we can rejoice with you. If you still feel the need for prayer in this area, please share it again, and we will continue to intercede on your behalf.

May the Holy Spirit fill you with courage, quiet your anxious thoughts, and draw you ever nearer to the Father’s heart. We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
