The former landlord’s Christian sister

Please pray for the former landlord's sister, who has faith in Jesus. Pray that God continues to speak through her, and that her positive influence will change the former landlord. Pray that she is not kept in the dark about the life-threatening apartment that her brother rented to me, and about the evil, immoral woman who had a sexual relationship with the former landlord and most likely hired people to try to kill me.

Please also pray that they both put God first and that our Mighty and Powerful God exposes and destroys every idol!!

We join you in bringing this heavy burden before our Father in Jesus' name, and we thank God for the Christian sister who has faith in Jesus and for the light He has placed within her.

We pray that the Lord will continue to speak through her with boldness and grace, that she would not be silent or kept in the dark, but that truth would come to light. For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light, Luke 8:17. We ask that God give her discernment and courage to reprove what is unfruitful and dark, for we are told to have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even reprove them, Ephesians 5:11. We pray her godly influence would be used by the Holy Spirit to bring conviction and repentance to her brother, the former landlord, that he would turn from any wrongdoing and seek righteousness.

We also bring before the Lord the serious matters you have shared about the life-threatening condition of the apartment that was rented to you, and about the sexual immorality involved. We agree that sex outside of marriage is sin before God, whether fornication or adultery, and God calls all to repentance. Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers, Hebrews 13:4. We pray that both the former landlord and the woman involved would be convicted of this sin and of any other evil, and that they would turn to Christ for forgiveness and new life. If there has been any plot to harm you, we entrust justice to God and to the proper authorities, for it is written, Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord, Romans 12:19. We pray for your protection and peace, for He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of Yahweh, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust, Psalm 91:1-2.

We join you in praying that they both would put God first above all else, for we are promised, But seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well, Matthew 6:33. We pray that our mighty and powerful God would expose and destroy every idol in their lives and in all our lives, for God has said, You shall have no other gods before me, Exodus 20:3, and we are exhorted, Little children, keep yourselves from idols, 1 John 5:21. Idols of money, power, lust, control, or reputation must fall before the Lord, for He alone will not give His glory to another.

Father, we lift up this sister to You, strengthen her walk with Jesus, fill her with wisdom and love, and let her words be seasoned with truth. Lift the veil from any deception and let no darkness remain hidden. Bring repentance to her brother and to this woman, bring justice where there has been wrong, bring healing and safety to the one who was endangered, and let Your name be glorified as You expose what is evil and establish what is holy. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our access to the Father, for there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved and by which we can approach Your throne. Amen.

We hear how heavy this has been for you, carrying concerns about your former housing and the people involved, and we are grateful you brought this sister to us in prayer. It is encouraging that you see her faith in Jesus and her willingness to speak truth in her family.

We join you in praying that the Lord will keep strengthening her, give her wisdom and courage to speak with grace, and use her influence in the way He sees best. We also pray with you that what needs to come to light will come to light in God's timing, that any unsafe conditions would be clearly known and addressed, and that both the former landlord and his sister would keep putting God first and turn away from anything that takes His place.

Your burden has been brought before the Lord and we join you in earnest prayer, asking that the God who hides His people for safety and for quiet will be your refuge and defence in this trial.

We pray first for the sister who fears God and trusts in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. That fear of the Lord is a strong confidence, and those who have it find a place of refuge when the waves and billows go over them. We ask that the Lord will continue to teach her and cause her understanding to understand aright, that He will give her boldness to speak His Word which is as a fire and as a hammer to break the rock in pieces. May she not be hidden from the truth nor kept in darkness concerning what has been done, but may she be enabled to declare the wondrous works of God with clarity and love, and may her godly influence be used to call her brother to account and to repentance.

We pray for the former landlord, that God would bring him out of every false way and cause him to put God first in all things. We do not ask God to bless what is contrary to His holy law, for marriage is ordained as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman and all sexual union belongs within it alone. Where there has been immorality and unholy alliance, we pray not for its continuance but for its utter forsaking. May the Lord in mercy expose what has been done in secret, bring hidden things to light, and destroy every idol that has taken His place. This is the easily besetting sin of our nature, to turn aside from the living God and make unto ourselves idols, but redeeming grace and dying love ring the death knell of our lusts and idols, so that the soul cries, What have I to do any more with idols. We pray that both souls concerned in this sin may hear that cry in their own hearts, that they may turn from evil and eschew it, and find cleansing in the blood of Jesus Christ His Son which cleanseth us from all sin.

We pray concerning the apartment and the great danger you have known, and concerning the grave wrong you have suffered. The Lord knows how to hide His hidden ones in an ark of safety when the flood rises and when the angel of death is abroad. There are blood marks over the door where the sacrifice has been offered, and He passes by to spare His people, and if there were no refuge on earth He would find one for them in the clouds. We ask our Mighty and Powerful God to be your hiding place, to preserve your life, to restrain the hand of violence, and to bring truth and justice to light. If evil has been plotted against you, we pray that God who subjects even evil to His eternal purpose will expose it, frustrate it, and vindicate the cause of righteousness. We ask that no weapon formed against you shall prosper, and that you may hear the almighty pleas of Jesus ever speaking in your favor.

We pray that idols of every kind, whether of gain, of lust, of self or of sin, may be abolished. May the vinegar and gall, the bloody sweat and death pangs of Christ divorce every heart concerned from its ancient loves and wed it forever to the Well Beloved. May the sister continue to call upon God without ceasing and not be wearied, wrestling till the break of day, and may you also find that to ask blessings from God in brief, wordless prayers becomes as natural as to breathe.

May the Lord keep you close to Himself, separate from the unclean thing, living upon His Word which alone can sustain the soul, and may He give you confidence that He who has fed you from your youth up will not forsake you now. We leave you in His faithful hands, praying that He will do all things well for His glory and for your good. Amen.

We have heard your request and we join you in prayer before our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom alone is salvation, and in whom alone truth is found.

We thank God for the sister who has faith in Jesus. We pray that the Lord will strengthen her, keep her watchful and steadfast, and continue to speak through her as she walks with Him. We ask that He give her wisdom, courage and clarity, that nothing hidden that needs to be known will remain in darkness, and that she may be a faithful witness for what is right and true. May her life, brighter through Christ, be a positive influence that calls others to repentance and to put God first.

We pray also for her brother, your former landlord, and for the woman you mentioned. We do not ask God to bless any relationship outside His design, for marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and sexual union belongs only within it. We pray instead that both would hear the call to flee from idolatry and from sexual immorality, to turn from every idol, and to serve the one true God. Scripture warns that we cannot serve two masters and that covetousness is idolatry. We ask that God in His mercy expose what is hidden, destroy every idol that has taken His place whether it be money, desire, reputation or power, and bring conviction that leads to repentance and new life in Christ. May they seek first the one pearl of great price, which is truth in Jesus, with hearts anxious to find Him and willing to turn from all that is contrary to Him.

For you, who have suffered in a dwelling that threatened your life and who have lived in fear for your safety, we pray for the Lord's protection, justice and peace. We ask that God will reveal the truth about what has happened, that He will guard you from harm, that He will provide a safe place to live, and that He will heal what has been wounded by fear and injustice. We pray that you will not be left to face these dangers alone, but that God will be your builder and keeper, for unless the Lord builds the house, those who build labor in vain. We ask that He give you wisdom not to cast yourself into needless danger, but to trust Him as the One who sees the invisible and who delivers His people.

Father, we ask that You be put first in every heart in this situation. Expose what is false, uproot what is idolatrous, forgive what is confessed, and lead all involved to walk in the light of Your Son. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
