We come before the Lord with you in this time of deep spiritual distress, lifting up your heartfelt cries for deliverance, cleansing, and renewal. The struggles you describe are heavy—familial concerns, spiritual oppression, and troubling thoughts that weigh on your soul. Yet we rejoice that you have turned to Jesus Christ, the only name under heaven by which we are saved, and through whom we have access to the Father. Your acknowledgment of Him is a testament to your faith, and we stand with you in His mighty name, claiming victory over the darkness you face.
First, let us address the spiritual warfare at play in your family. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we may have life abundantly (John 10:10). The account of your grandmother being influenced by a spirit is deeply concerning, for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers of darkness (Ephesians 6:12). The Bible is clear that we are to have no fellowship with unfruitful works of darkness but rather expose them (Ephesians 5:11). Any spirit that is not of God must be rebuked in the name of Jesus, who has all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18). We must also forgive as Christ forgave us, releasing bitterness and vengeance, for vengeance belongs to the Lord (Romans 12:19). Racism, prejudice, or any form of hatred is an affront to God, who created all people in His image (Genesis 1:27). Let us pray for your grandmother’s deliverance and for the breaking of generational curses that may be at work in your family.
Your thoughts of violence toward others are not from God, who calls us to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31) and to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). These thoughts may be influenced by the spiritual darkness around you or even by ungodly influences in media or environment. We urge you to fill your mind with the Word of God, which is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). Cast down these imaginations and replace them with prayers for those you struggle with, blessing them instead of harboring ill will (Luke 6:28).
Regarding your brother, we pray for his salvation and deliverance if he is caught in sin or addiction. The resemblance you noticed to someone involved in unlawful activities may be a coincidence, but it could also be a warning to intercede for him. The Bible tells us that the prayers of the righteous avail much (James 5:16). Let us not assume the worst but instead pray for his heart to turn to Christ, for God desires that none should perish but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
Your desire to fast is commendable, as fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline that humbles the soul and draws us closer to God (Psalm 35:13, Matthew 6:16-18). However, we must approach it with the right heart, not as a means to earn God’s favor but as an act of worship and dependence on Him. Jesus Himself fasted for forty days and was tempted by the devil, but He overcame by the Word of God (Matthew 4:1-11). As you fast, immerse yourself in Scripture and prayer, seeking God’s face rather than just His hand. Remember, man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4). If hunger becomes overwhelming, ask the Lord for strength, trusting that He will sustain you (Isaiah 40:31). Three days is a worthy goal, but listen to the Holy Spirit’s leading—He may guide you to fast differently, whether in duration or type (e.g., partial fast).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, lifting up our brother who is burdened by spiritual oppression, familial struggles, and troubling thoughts. Lord, we ask for Your mighty hand to move in his life and in the lives of his family members. Break every chain of darkness, every generational curse, and every stronghold that exalts itself against the knowledge of Christ. We rebuke every unclean spirit in the name of Jesus and command it to flee, for greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4).
Father, we pray for this brother’s grandmother. If she has been influenced by spirits not of You, we ask for her deliverance and filling with the Holy Spirit. Soften her heart, Lord, and remove any bitterness or prejudice. Let her be a vessel of Your love and forgiveness, reflecting Your heart for all people. We pray for the brother who has returned home—Lord, if he is lost or bound by addiction, we ask that You draw him to Yourself. Surround him with godly influences and open his eyes to the truth of the Gospel. Let him encounter Your love in a way that transforms his life.
Lord, we lift up the troubling thoughts that have plagued our brother’s mind. We declare that these thoughts are not from You, for You are the God of peace (1 Corinthians 14:33). We ask that You renew his mind by the washing of the water of the Word (Ephesians 5:26). Replace violence with love, fear with faith, and confusion with clarity. Help him to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ and to meditate on whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable (Philippians 4:8).
We thank You for his desire to fast and seek You. Strengthen him, Lord, as he denies his flesh to draw nearer to You. Sustain him by Your Spirit and fill him with Your presence. Let this fast be a time of breakthrough, where strongholds are shattered and Your voice is heard clearly. Remove the hunger pangs and replace them with a hunger for righteousness (Matthew 5:6).
Father, we ask for Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, to guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Let him experience Your providence and progress in every area of his life. Surround him with Your angels, encamp them around him, and deliver him from every evil work (Psalm 34:7).
We declare that no weapon formed against him shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that he is more than a conqueror through Christ who loves him (Romans 8:37). Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, Lord, and let him walk in victory, for the battle is Yours.
In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Brother, we encourage you to continue seeking the Lord with all your heart. Immerse yourself in His Word daily, for it is your sword in this spiritual battle (Ephesians 6:17). Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you and hold you accountable. If you do not have a local church, we urge you to find one where the Gospel is preached boldly and where you can grow in community. Avoid isolation, for the enemy preys on those who are alone.
If you have not already, we strongly encourage you to confess any known sin in your life, for unconfessed sin can give the enemy a foothold (Ephesians 4:27). Repent and turn to Jesus, who is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse you from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
Finally, remember that your identity is in Christ. You are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), and the old has passed away. Walk in the freedom He has purchased for you, and do not let the enemy deceive you into believing you are still bound. The Son has set you free, and you are free indeed (John 8:36).
Stand firm, brother. The Lord is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). We are praying with you and for you. Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
