We hear your heart in this season of fasting and dependence on the Lord, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting up every concern to our Heavenly Father. Forty days of fasting is a profound spiritual discipline, echoing the example of Christ Himself in the wilderness, where He triumphed over temptation through the Word and the power of the Holy Spirit. We rejoice in your commitment to seek God’s face through His Word and prayer, and we pray that He strengthens you to complete this fast according to His will.
First, we must address the matter of medication and dependence with both truth and compassion. While we understand that Adderall or Ritalin may be prescribed to address legitimate medical needs, we are concerned about the language of "chemical dependence" and the reliance on stimulants as a "free stimulant" when you are struggling financially. Scripture warns us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." The body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and we must be cautious not to misuse substances, even prescribed ones, in ways that could lead to bondage or harm. We encourage you to seek God’s wisdom in this area, asking Him to reveal whether this dependence aligns with His best for you. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
We also want to gently rebuke the mention of the "satanic bible." There is no wisdom, truth, or light in such darkness. Scripture is clear in 2 Corinthians 6:14-15, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever?" Turning to sources that oppose God’s Word, even out of curiosity, can open doors to fear, deception, and spiritual attack. We urge you to renounce any connection to such materials and fill your mind instead with the truth of God’s Word. Philippians 4:8 instructs us, "Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things."
Your mention of isolation and lack of interaction with friends for four years is also a matter of concern. While it is wise to avoid connections that may lead to temptation or sin, Scripture calls us to community and fellowship with other believers. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, "Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching." We encourage you to seek out a local church or Christian community where you can grow in faith, receive support, and walk in accountability with others. Isolation can lead to spiritual weakness, and God designed us to thrive in relationship with one another.
We also want to address the fear you mentioned. Fear does not come from God, as 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us, "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." If you have engaged with the "satanic bible" or other dark materials, it is possible that fear has taken root where faith should dwell. We encourage you to confess any involvement with such things and ask God to cleanse your mind and heart. 1 John 1:9 assures us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Replace fear with the truth of God’s Word, meditating on verses like Psalm 23:4, "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me."
Now, let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this dear brother to You, asking that You would strengthen him in body, mind, and spirit as he seeks You through this season of fasting. Lord, we ask that You would sustain him, providing the physical and spiritual nourishment he needs to complete these forty days. Protect him from temptation, distraction, and the schemes of the enemy. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he may walk in power, love, and self-control.
Father, we pray for wisdom and discernment regarding his medical needs. We ask that You would guide his doctors and give them clarity in how to best care for him. If it is Your will for him to receive medication, we pray that You would provide it according to Your perfect plan. But Lord, we also ask that You would reveal any areas of dependence or misuse, and that You would break any chains of bondage in his life. Set him free, Father, by the power of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
We renounce any influence of darkness that may have entered his life through the reading of ungodly materials. We declare that his mind is being renewed by Your Word, and that he is being transformed by the truth of the Gospel. Cleanse him, Lord, and fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Guard his heart from fear, and replace it with faith in Your promises.
Father, we also pray for community and fellowship for him. Lead him to a local church or group of believers where he can grow, be encouraged, and walk in accountability. Break the chains of isolation, Lord, and surround him with godly friends who will sharpen him and point him to You.
We thank You for Your provision in his life, for the coffee and the small blessings that sustain him. We ask that You would continue to provide for his needs, both physically and spiritually. May he experience Your presence in a tangible way during this fast, and may he emerge from it with a deeper intimacy with You.
We pray all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
We encourage you to press into God’s Word during this fast, allowing it to transform your mind and heart. Meditate on passages like Isaiah 41:10, "Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness." Let this season be one of drawing near to God, and watch as He draws near to you in return. If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. Romans 10:9 says, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." There is no other name by which we can be saved, and it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Surrender your life to Him, and experience the freedom and peace that only He can give.
