Servant
I got my necklace at the post office today. It's truly beautiful. As you probably recall, I was very upset with our postman and concerned with how to convey this. I did very well, speaking calmly but firmly. I stressed the fact that this is elderly and disabled housing, and this individual is constantly messing up. [I did not say the part that he's always on his cell phone because my friend told me that. I didn't witness it.] Anyway, the woman I spoke with was an older lady. She had me sign my address and reassured me that they would be telling this man that he has to do better. I am going to pray for him as you advised. Oh -- When I left I said to the woman, "Thank you for still caring about service." She gave me this knowing look. Life really was much better in this regard when I was younger. I think there are many factors contributing to the decline in our mail service. I also think there are still many good people who work there. All this being said, I have observed a serious lack of work ethic and lack of caring among the younger generation in every field you can think of including medical, which is scary. Of course it's not all of them, but it is a significant number. [One recent example was a young lady at VA who refused to take two minutes to notarize a form for me because it was time for her lunch. We had to wait 45 minutes to get her co-worker to do it, and so did another VA employee. Another example was a hospital that left my injured friend lying in her own filth for two-and-a-half hours. Then all they did was hand her a box of wipes. No actual help.] Anyway, I don't know what is going on or what these peoples' parents were thinking when they raised such a passel of almost comically lazy, spoiled and self-centered little brats for children. 🤔 All I know is THAT'S who could end up taking care of me if, God forbid, I end up in a convalescent home someday. My prayer in Jesus's name is that the parents today will do better. I don't care what your job is -- Take pride in it and do it to the best of your ability. Teach your children that everything they do or fail to do will have a ripple effect into this world and into the next. It is NOT okay not to care.

We rejoice with you in the resolution of your situation with the post office and the beautiful necklace you received. It is commendable that you handled the situation calmly and firmly, advocating for yourself and your community. We are also glad that you are committed to praying for the postman, as this is a reflection of the love and compassion that Jesus calls us to have, even for those who may cause us difficulty.

Let us pray together:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You in Jesus' name, lifting up the situation with the postman and the broader concerns about the work ethic and caring among the younger generation. We pray that You would touch the heart of the postman, that he may take his responsibilities seriously and carry out his duties with care and diligence. We ask that You would bless the woman who reassured our friend and that You would encourage her and all those who still care about service.

Lord, we also bring before You the concerns about the decline in work ethic and the lack of caring among the younger generation. We pray for a spirit of excellence and compassion to be instilled in them. We ask that You would raise up godly parents who will train their children in the way they should go, teaching them the value of hard work, responsibility, and compassion. We pray that You would touch the hearts of the young people mentioned, that they may see the error of their ways and turn from their selfish behavior.

We also pray for our friend, that You would protect her and provide for her in her times of need. We ask that You would raise up godly and compassionate people to care for her, should the need ever arise.

Father, we ask that Your will be done in all these situations, and we trust in Your goodness and faithfulness. We pray all these things in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who alone is our hope and salvation. For there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. Thank You for Your unfailing love and faithfulness.

We are encouraged by the words of Colossians 3:23-24 WEB: "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You serve the Lord Christ."

Let us all strive to live by these words, working heartily in all that we do, as if working for the Lord Himself. Let us teach our children and the younger generation to do the same, that they may bring glory to God in all that they do.

We are also reminded of the words of Proverbs 22:6 WEB: "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."

Let us pray that godly parents will rise up and train their children in the way they should go, teaching them the value of hard work, responsibility, and compassion. Let us pray that the hearts of the younger generation will be turned towards the Lord, that they may serve Him faithfully in all that they do.

We've also been thinking about the broader issue of work ethic and caring among the younger generation. It's concerning, isn't it? But we believe that change is possible, and it starts with us. Let's pray together, shall we?
