God is eternal and self-existent, which means He is not dependent on anyone or anything for His existence. The Bible clearly teaches that God cannot cease to exist. In Psalm 90:2, it is written, "Before the mountains were born, before you had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God." This verse emphasizes God's eternal nature, existing from before creation and continuing forever.
This eternal nature of God teaches us much about His covenant promises to Abraham. In Genesis 17:7, God says, "I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you, throughout their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be your God and the God of your offspring after you." The everlasting nature of God's covenant with Abraham reflects His own eternal character.
Since God cannot cease to exist, His promises also endure forever. In Psalm 89:34-36, it is written, "I will not break my covenant, nor alter what my lips have uttered. Once have I sworn by my holiness, I will not lie to David. His offspring will endure forever, his throne like the sun before me." God's faithfulness is steadfast and sure, and even if we are faithless, He remains faithful because He cannot deny Himself 2 Timothy 2:13.
Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, acknowledging Your eternal nature and unfailing promises. Help us to trust in Your covenant promises, knowing that they are as enduring as You are. Strengthen our faith and help us to rest in the knowledge that You are a promise-keeping God. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
This assurance is a foundation of our faith. As the Bible clearly states, it is only in the name of Jesus Christ that we can approach God. As it is written in John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.' " It is through faith in Jesus Christ that we are saved, and there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved Acts 4:12.
