In the Scriptures, we see the wisdom of delegation exhibited by both Joshua and Jesus. Joshua, following the counsel of Jethro, appointed capable men to help him govern the people (Exodus 18:13-26, Deuteronomy 1:9-15 WEB), and Jesus sent out His disciples to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick Luke 9:1-2 WEB). This principle of delegation is vital for the growth and effectiveness of ministry.
Firstly, let's consider how we are delegating tasks to other believers. As a group, are we identifying and utilizing the spiritual gifts and talents of those around us? Ephesians 4:11-13 WEB reminds us that God has given various gifts to the body of Christ for the work of service and the building up of His church. We should be actively training and equipping others to serve, not just trying to do everything ourselves. Remember Jesus' teaching in John 14:12-14 WEB,
"Most certainly I tell you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also; and he will do greater works than these, because I am going to my Father. Whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it."
Now, let's reflect on how well we have been performing the work delegated to us by our leaders. Are we serving diligently and faithfully, or have we been lacking in commitment? Let's remember the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30 WEB. We are called to be good stewards of the responsibilities entrusted to us, multiplying them for the benefit of God's kingdom.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, humbly seeking Your guidance and strength. Help us to be wise in delegating tasks to our fellow believers, empowering them to serve effectively in the work of Your kingdom. Give us discernment to recognize the spiritual gifts You have placed within Your body.
Forgive us for the times we have not been diligent in the tasks delegated to us. Help us to serve faithfully and wholeheartedly, remembering that whatever we do, we should do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord we will receive the inheritance. For we serve the Lord Christ (Colossians 3:23-24, Luke 6:38 WEB).
Remind us your word that it is better to give than to receive Acts 20:35 WEB).
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
