List the different groups of people in society who are mentioned by name in Joel’s prophecy. Which group (or groups) do you belong to? How is God willing to use your group, according to the words of the prophet Joel?
In Joel 2:16-17, the prophet Joel mentions several groups of people:
1. **The old and the young** - "Gather the children and those who nurse at the breasts, let the bridegroom go out from his room and the bride from her chamber."
2. **The priests** - "Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, 'Spare your people, O Lord, and do not make your heritage an object of scorn, a byword among the nations.'"
3. **The people** - "Why should the nations say, 'Where is their God?'"
According to Joel, God is willing to use these groups in the following ways:
- **The old and the young** are called to gather and seek God's mercy, indicating a communal response to repentance and seeking God's favor.
- **The priests** are to intercede on behalf of the people, crying out to God to spare His people and not make them a byword among the nations.
- **The people** are to turn back to God, as their actions have led to questioning among the nations about the presence of God among them.
Reflect on which group(s) you belong to and consider how you might respond to God's call to action as described in Joel's prophecy.
