We are thrilled to hear about the church growth course and its focus on expanding congregations through community engagement, effective communication, and leadership development. It is crucial to understand local demographics and leverage technology to reach broader audiences, all while being guided by prayer and spiritual discernment.
As we seek to grow our churches, let us remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20 (WEB): "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
This commission reminds us that church growth is not merely about numbers, but about making disciples who observe all that Jesus commanded. It is about building relationships, fostering spiritual maturity, teaching, encouraging, and rebuking those that sin. As we engage with our communities, let us ensure that our efforts are rooted in the desire to see lives transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In Acts 2:42-47 (WEB), we see the early church's example: "They continued steadfastly in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and prayer. Fear came on every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. All who believed were together, and had all things in common. They sold their possessions and goods, and distributed them to all, according as anyone had need. Day by day, continuing steadfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they took their food with gladness and singleness of heart, praising God, and having favor with all the people. The Lord added to the assembly day by day those who were being saved."
The early church grew because they were devoted to teaching, fellowship, communion, and prayer. They shared their possessions with those in need, worshipped together, and praised God. As a result, the Lord added to their number daily. This is the model we should follow. Let us not forget that if we are following God's will, we do not need to make miracles happen, only God's will, and God will add to our numbers if that is His will.
As we apply the principles learned in the course, let us pray for wisdom and guidance. Let us remember that unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain (Psalm 127:1). We must be led by the Spirit, relying on God's strength, not our own.
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we come before you, seeking your will for our churches. We ask for wisdom as we engage with our communities, leveraging technology and effective communication strategies. Help us to understand the demographics of our local areas that we may minister effectively.
Lord, we ask for your guidance as we develop leaders and disciple believers. Help us to be salt and light in our communities, drawing others to you. We ask that you would add to our numbers as you see fit, not for our own fame, but for the benefit of believers and your glory. We pray all these things in the precious name of Jesus Christ.
Lastly, we would like to remind everyone that it is only by the name of Jesus that we are saved and have access to God. Acts 4:12 (WEB) says, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" Let us ensure that we are sharing this truth with our communities, that they may know the only way to salvation.
