Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your prayer is heard and it is good, for you have turned to the true place of rest. When you remember that even the hairs of your head are all numbered, you remember that nothing about you is overlooked by God.
We live in a world that trains us to be anxious, to think that by our own worry and diligence we can secure our lives. Yet as Scripture teaches, it is not our anxiety that sustains us, but the providence of God which effects all, even where we seem to be active. If He were to forsake us, all our toil would come to nothing, but since He numbers each hair, we know He will not forsake those who trust in Him through Christ.
Fear makes the soul unsteady and tossed about, now lifted up and now cast down, never in tranquility. But quiet confidence comes when we know we are fully known and held. God sees not only your outward life but your worries, your silent struggles, and every detail of your journey, and He does not look upon you with indifference. In Jesus Christ alone we have this assurance, that being known by Him we are valued and kept safely in His hands.
So we pray with you:
Heavenly Father, we thank You that Your wisdom and care reach to the smallest detail of our lives. Forgive us for the times we have lived in fear and help us to rest in Your providence. Teach us to cast our anxieties upon You, to remember that we are deeply known and upheld by Your hand, and to walk in the confidence that You will keep us in Christ. Guard our hearts from restless worry and make us steady in trusting Your goodness. In the name of Jesus we ask this, Amen.
