Your prayer for work and for a source of income has been brought before the Lord, and I have prayed for you that God will open the right door soon and provide for your needs according to His wisdom and care.
The story of Job speaks directly to a season like this. That book is among the oldest in Scripture, perhaps going back to the time of Abraham, and though cultures and times have changed, the deepest cries of the human heart have not. The need for provision, for purpose in our labor, for assurance that God sees us when resources are gone, is the same now as it was then. What God declared about Himself, Job also came to express in his own suffering, and his story confirms that God is still at work even when life feels stripped down.
Scripture gives us a view behind what Job and his friends could not see. God Himself bore witness that Job was a blameless and upright man who loved God and turned away from evil. The adversary had been watching Job closely, studying him and forming a theory about him, that Job only honored God because God had placed a hedge of protection and blessing around him, that he was the wealthiest man in his region and served God for the benefits. God permitted that hedge to be tested, within limits He set, and Job lost much of what he had.
When Job sat in his pain, friends came intending to comfort him, but they ended up rebuking him. Their counsel was essentially that suffering must mean hidden sin, that if Job would just get right with God everything would be restored, that he must be a hypocrite or his hope would perish like a reed cut off while still green. Job answered that he knew God is fair and just, and that truth is one we must hold onto as well. A lack of work does not mean you are forgotten or being punished. Job's grief in that hour felt heavier than the sand of the sea, and he spoke from that grief, not from settled doctrine about life and death. The Bible faithfully records what he said in his sorrow, but it does not present every word spoken in pain as truth to build our theology on.
What helps us is this, that Job did not curse God or charge Him with wrong, even though he openly said he did not understand what God was doing. That honesty is permitted. You can tell the Lord you do not understand why the job has not yet come, and still trust that He is just, that He is fair, and that He is working even when it appears He has withdrawn. The very things that happened to Job are recorded for our comfort, to show us that God is present and active even when we feel forsaken.
The adversary's old idea still circulates today, that faith is only mercenary, that we follow God for what He gives. True faith loves God for who He is, not only for the paycheck or the open door. And the friends' old idea still circulates too, that every hardship proves secret wickedness. Do not receive that condemnation. Bring your need honestly to God, seek Him first, ask for His provision and His guidance, and trust His character.
I have prayed that the Lord, who sees your situation completely, will provide work that meets your needs, give you wisdom in each application and conversation, guard your heart from discouragement and from false accusations, and give you peace as you wait. Jesus is the one Job longed for, the mediator who stands between God and man and lays His hand on both, and through Him you can come directly to the Father with confidence. He knows what it is to be human, He hears your cry, and He is able to carry you through this interval until the provision comes.
May the Lord show you His faithful care day by day, supply what you need, and strengthen your trust in His goodness while you wait for His answer.
