We hear your cry, dear brother or sister in Christ, and we stand with you in the midst of this intense spiritual battle. Your struggle is real, and the enemy has indeed sought to use others to wound you deeply, hoping to ensnare you in bitterness and unforgiveness. But we praise God that He has begun a work of deliverance in your life, breaking the chains of unforgiveness and opening your eyes to the spiritual forces at work. The journey you describe is not easy, and we acknowledge the exhaustion you feel as the same individuals continue to be used by the enemy, even as God has softened your heart toward them.
First, we must address the foundation of all spiritual warfare: the name of Jesus Christ. It is only through Him that we have victory, for "God raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule, authority, power, dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come" (Ephesians 1:20-21). There is no other name by which we can be saved or delivered (Acts 4:12), and it is in His authority that we stand against the schemes of the devil. If you have not already, we encourage you to reaffirm your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, for it is through His blood that we have redemption and the forgiveness of sins (Ephesians 1:7).
The battle you face is not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12). While it is understandable to feel weary of the repeated attacks from these individuals, we must remember that our struggle is not with them, but with the enemy who seeks to use them. However, we also recognize that people are responsible for their actions, and the enemy cannot force anyone to sin. James 1:14-15 tells us, "But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed. Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin." While the enemy may influence, the choice to yield to that influence remains with the individual. This is why we must pray not only for our own deliverance but also for the hearts of those being used, that they might resist the devil and submit to God (James 4:7).
Your desire for these individuals to be removed from your life is understandable, given the pain they have caused. However, we must also consider whether this aligns with God’s will for reconciliation and forgiveness. Jesus taught us to pray, "Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors" (Matthew 6:12), and He made it clear that if we do not forgive others, our Father will not forgive us (Matthew 6:15). This does not mean we must trust or subject ourselves to further harm, but it does mean we must release bitterness and entrust justice to God. Romans 12:19 reminds us, "Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, 'Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.'"
That said, there is wisdom in setting boundaries. Jesus Himself withdrew from those who sought to harm Him (Luke 4:28-30), and Proverbs 22:24-25 warns, "Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man, and don’t associate with one who harbors anger: lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul." If these individuals continue to be a source of spiritual attack and harm, it may be God’s will for you to distance yourself from them for a time, or even permanently, to protect your heart and walk with Him. But this should be done with a heart of love, not hatred, and with the hope that they might one day turn to Christ.
We also want to address the thoughts you’ve had about their awareness and responsibility. While it is true that some may be knowingly yielding to the enemy’s influence, we cannot judge their hearts. Only God knows the depths of their motives. What we can do is pray for their eyes to be opened to the truth and for their hearts to be softened to repentance. In doing so, we guard our own hearts from bitterness and align ourselves with God’s desire that none should perish (2 Peter 3:9).
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up our brother/sister who is enduring intense spiritual warfare, and we ask that You would be their refuge and strength in this battle. Lord, we thank You for the deliverance You have already begun in their life, breaking the chains of unforgiveness and opening their eyes to the schemes of the enemy. We ask that You would complete this work, strengthening them to stand firm in Your truth and to resist the devil so that he will flee from them (James 4:7).
Father, we pray for the individuals who have been used as instruments of the enemy in this warfare. We ask that You would break the power of the enemy over their lives, that they might see the truth and turn to You in repentance. Soften their hearts, Lord, and open their eyes to the destruction they have been a part of. We pray that they would come to know You as their Savior and be delivered from the influence of the evil one.
Lord, we ask that You would give our brother/sister wisdom in how to proceed with these relationships. If it is Your will for them to be removed from their life, we pray that You would make a way for this to happen in a manner that honors You and protects their heart. Give them the strength to set boundaries where needed, and the grace to do so with love and without bitterness. Help them to forgive as You have forgiven them, and to trust You for justice and restoration.
We rebuke the enemy and his schemes in the name of Jesus. We declare that no weapon formed against our brother/sister will prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and that You will turn every attack of the enemy into a testimony of Your faithfulness. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Strengthen them with Your might in their inner being, so that Christ may dwell in their heart through faith (Ephesians 3:16-17).
Father, we ask that You would continue to draw them closer to You, deepening their relationship with You and filling them with Your Holy Spirit. May they find their rest and strength in You alone, knowing that You are their deliverer and their shield. We trust in Your goodness and Your perfect plan for their life, and we ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
We encourage you to continue to seek the Lord in this time, asking Him to reveal His will for these relationships. Spend time in His Word, for it is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). Surround yourself with fellow believers who can pray with you and encourage you, for "though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken" (Ecclesiastes 4:12). Remember that the battle belongs to the Lord (1 Samuel 17:47), and He is faithful to fight for you. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2), and trust that He will lead you into victory.
