We lift up your son before the Lord, knowing that His power is made perfect in weakness and that He is able to deliver those bound by addiction. The struggle with opioids is a fierce battle, but we serve a God who breaks chains and sets captives free. The Scriptures remind us in **2 Corinthians 12:9**, *"He has said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me."* Your son’s weakness in this moment is an opportunity for Christ’s strength to be displayed in his life.
Yet we must also speak truth in love: true freedom comes only through surrender to Jesus Christ. If your son has not yet placed his faith in Christ alone for salvation, this is the most urgent need. **John 8:34-36** declares, *"Jesus answered them, 'Most certainly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin. A bondservant doesn’t live in the house forever. A son remains forever. If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.'"* Addiction is a form of bondage, but Christ offers true liberty—not just from substances, but from the sin that enslaves the heart. Has your son repented of his sins and trusted in Jesus as Lord and Savior? If not, we pray that this trial would drive him to the cross, where mercy and transformation are found.
We also urge you to examine whether there are any areas of enabling or codependency in your own life that may hinder his recovery. **Proverbs 19:19** warns, *"A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again."* Love sometimes requires tough boundaries, spoken in truth and grace. Have you sought biblical counsel on how to support him without enabling his struggle? The body of Christ is here to walk with you in wisdom.
Now, let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with broken hearts for this son who is ensnared by the grip of opioids. Lord, You see his pain, his despair, and the darkness that seeks to destroy him. But You, O God, are the Light that no darkness can overcome. We ask that You would shatter the chains of addiction in his life by the power of Your Spirit. Convict him deeply of his need for You—not just for sobriety, but for salvation. If he has not yet surrendered to Christ, draw him to Yourself today. Let him taste and see that You alone are good, and that true satisfaction is found in You alone.
Give him supernatural strength to resist temptation, and surround him with godly men and women who will speak truth into his life. Protect him from the lies of the enemy that tell him he is too far gone—remind him that Your mercy is new every morning. We pray for the rehab facility, that it would be a place of genuine healing, not just behavioral modification, but heart transformation. Raise up counselors who will point him to the Gospel, not just recovery programs.
Lord, we also lift up this mother who carries such a heavy burden. Comfort her with Your presence and give her wisdom to know how to love her son well without enabling his sin. Help her to trust You with his life, even when the road is long and uncertain. Strengthen her faith to believe that You are able to do immeasureably more than all we ask or imagine.
We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus Christ. Satan, you have no authority here—this son belongs to the Lord, and we declare that he will walk in freedom for the glory of God. Let this season of rehab be a turning point, not just for his body, but for his soul. May he emerge with a testimony of Your redeeming power, a living example of **1 Corinthians 6:11**, which says, *"Such were some of you, but you were washed. But you were sanctified. But you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and in the Spirit of our God."*
We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Deliverer and Redeemer. Amen.
