We join you in lifting up your son and this urgent situation before the Lord, for it is written, *"Don’t be anxious for anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God"* (Philippians 4:6, WEB). It is good that you have brought these concerns to Jesus, for He alone is our Provider, Protector, and the One who holds all authority—even over governments and rulers. *"The king’s heart is in Yahweh’s hand like the water courses. He turns it wherever he desires"* (Proverbs 21:1, WEB). Let us trust in His sovereignty, even in times of uncertainty.
First, we pray for your son, asking the Lord to surround him with His peace and protection at school today. May the Lord place a hedge of angels around him, guarding his mind, body, and spirit from any harm or fear. *"He will give his angels charge over you, to guard you in all your ways"* (Psalm 91:11, WEB). We ask that the Lord would fill his heart with courage and wisdom, and that he would walk in the confidence of knowing that God is with him always. May his teachers and classmates be instruments of kindness and encouragement to him, and may he be a light for Christ in that place.
Now, regarding the government and the needs of the people, we acknowledge that this is a time of great distress for many. The Lord sees the suffering of His people, and He hears the cries of those in need. *"Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit"* (Psalm 34:18, WEB). However, we must remember that our ultimate trust is not in governments or human systems, but in the Lord Himself. He is the one who provides for our needs, often using earthly means, but always according to His perfect will. *"Don’t trust in princes, each a son of man in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, and he returns to the earth. In that very day, his thoughts perish. Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in Yahweh, his God"* (Psalm 146:3-5, WEB).
While we pray for wisdom and compromise among leaders, we must also recognize that compromise with ungodly principles is not what the Lord calls us to. Instead, we pray that those in authority would seek the Lord’s wisdom above all else. *"The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge, but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction"* (Proverbs 1:7, WEB). Let us pray that our leaders would humble themselves and turn to the Lord, for *"righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people"* (Proverbs 14:34, WEB). We ask that the Lord would soften hearts and open eyes to the truth, that decisions would be made not out of political gain or pride, but out of a genuine desire to serve and protect the people.
We also encourage you to remember that the Lord often uses times of hardship to draw His people closer to Him. This season may be an opportunity for many to turn to the Lord in faith, trusting Him to provide in ways they never imagined. *"My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus"* (Philippians 4:19, WEB). Let us pray that those who are struggling would seek the Lord first, and that the church would rise up to meet the needs of the hurting with love and generosity.
Finally, we must address something important in your prayer: while it is good to bring your requests to the Lord, we notice that you did not explicitly pray in the name of Jesus. This is not a small matter, for Jesus Himself said, *"Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full"* (John 16:23-24, WEB). It is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to the Father, and it is only through faith in Christ that we are saved. *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* (Acts 4:12, WEB). If you have not already, we urge you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, for He alone is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).
Let us pray together now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this dear sister and her son. Lord, we ask that You would surround her son with Your divine protection today at school. Guard his heart and mind, and let him feel Your presence with him in every moment. Give him wisdom, courage, and a spirit of peace that surpasses all understanding. May he be a light for You in that place, and may Your favor rest upon him.
Lord, we also bring before You the urgent needs of the people affected by the government’s decisions. You are the God who sees and hears the cries of Your people. We ask that You would move in the hearts of those in authority, granting them wisdom, humility, and a spirit of unity that seeks Your will above all else. Father, we pray that decisions would be made that honor You and provide for the needs of the people. Let this time of hardship draw many to You, that they may find their hope and provision in Christ alone.
We ask that You would open doors for Your church to step in and meet the needs of those who are suffering. Raise up believers who will generously give, serve, and love their neighbors as themselves. May Your name be glorified through this situation, and may many come to know You as their Provider and Savior.
Father, we also lift up this dear sister who has brought these requests before You. Strengthen her faith and fill her with Your peace. Remind her that You are in control, and that nothing is too difficult for You. Help her to trust in You with all her heart, leaning not on her own understanding but acknowledging You in all her ways (Proverbs 3:5-6).
We pray all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
