On Tuesday night the muscle movements that I have been experiencing began to increase rapidly. By Wednesday morning we realized that they had developed to an emergency level. They were classified as myoclonic jerks and now they are called chorea. I found a video on YouTube that displays the types of movements a person has when they have chorea. Of course, my movements are a little different but it will give you an idea of what I am going through if you see this video. Here is the link:
I will be seen by an expert in Chorea at ### on Dec 11th (which is considered a STAT appointment). Until then, they gave me some medications to try to get through this. The medications allow me to have some times of freedom from the movements while I am resting but they return if I sit up, walk, try to talk on the phone or whatever. I am now getting some relief when I sleep because of the medications and that is a blessing as well.
Chorea is most often caused by a stroke or a lesion in the brain. There are other causes as well. We already knew that my neck was doing pretty badly and they wanted to do neck surgery. My family is wondering if my neck problems are causing this.
Anyway, I seek your prayers for my recovery and for my family as they are very concerned. I am also concerned about how to manage working with these jerks. I need God to lead me to do the right things as far as future coverage and understanding what I can and cannot do at work.
