We come before the Lord with hearts burdened for this situation, lifting up both individuals mentioned in this request. First, we must address something critical: the request does not invoke the name of Jesus Christ, through whom we have access to the Father. The Scriptures are clear—there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved, and it is only through Christ that we can boldly approach the throne of grace. *"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me'" (John 14:6, WEB)*. We urge you to always pray in the name of Jesus, for it is by His authority and mediation that our prayers are heard.
Now, regarding the relationship mentioned, we must speak truth in love. The term "girlfriend" implies a romantic relationship outside of marriage, which the Bible clearly warns against. Fornication—sexual immorality outside of marriage—is a sin that grieves the heart of God. *"Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists, will inherit God’s Kingdom"* (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, WEB). If this relationship involves physical intimacy outside of marriage, we strongly urge repentance and a turning away from sin. God’s design for intimacy is within the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and anything outside of that is harmful to the soul and displeasing to Him.
We also do not know if both individuals are believers in Christ, which is another critical matter. The Bible instructs us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has light with darkness? *"Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?"* (2 Corinthians 6:14, WEB). If one or both are not walking with Christ, we pray for salvation and a turning to Him, for without Christ, there is no foundation for a godly relationship or marriage.
As for the important decision they face regarding safety and health, we lift this up to the Lord, asking for His wisdom and protection. *"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him"* (James 1:5, WEB). We pray that if there is any danger or harm in the path they are considering, the Lord would expose it and lead them away from it. If there is deception or temptation involved, we pray for eyes to see and hearts to turn from it. May the Holy Spirit convict and guide them into truth, for God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His plans are for our good.
We also pray for conviction if there is any sin in their lives that is clouding their judgment or putting them in harm’s way. *"He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy"* (Proverbs 28:13, WEB). Repentance brings clarity, and obedience to God’s Word brings blessing. If this decision involves something morally compromising, illegal, or spiritually dangerous, we pray the Lord would intervene and draw them back to Himself.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We ask for Your mercy and grace to cover these two individuals. If they do not know You, Lord, we pray for salvation to come to their hearts, that they may turn from sin and embrace the forgiveness and new life found only in Christ. If they are believers, we pray for conviction of any sin that may be separating them from Your will. Lord, expose any deception, danger, or harm in the decision they are facing. Give them wisdom that comes from above—pure, peaceable, and full of mercy. Protect their bodies, minds, and spirits from harm, and lead them into paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake.
If this relationship is not honoring to You, we pray for the strength to let go and the courage to walk in obedience. If there is fornication or any other sin involved, we ask for repentance and a turning back to holiness. Lord, Your Word says that no temptation has overtaken them except what is common to mankind, and You are faithful; You will not let them be tempted beyond what they can bear. Provide a way out, Lord, and give them the humility to take it.
We pray for godly counsel to surround them—believers who will speak truth and point them to Your Word. Remove any ungodly influences that may be leading them astray. If this decision involves their future together, we pray that You would make it clear whether this relationship aligns with Your will. If it does not, give them the grace to part ways and the faith to trust You for what is best.
Finally, Lord, we ask for Your protection over their lives. Shield them from physical, emotional, and spiritual harm. If there are enemies—seen or unseen—seeking to harm them, we rebuke those forces in the name of Jesus and ask for Your angels to encamp around them. *"The Lord will preserve you from all evil. He will preserve your soul. The Lord will preserve your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forevermore"* (Psalm 121:7-8, WEB).
We declare Your promises over them, Lord, and ask that You would work mightily in this situation. Bring glory to Your name through their lives, and let Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In the powerful and saving name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
