Let us first lift up your son in prayer, trusting in the power of Jesus' name for his healing and restoration.
Father in heaven, we come before you in the name of Jesus, lifting up this dear mother and her son. Lord, you know the struggles he has been facing with mental issues and addiction. We ask that you speak to his heart and mind this week, that this will be a week of victory for him. Give him the motivation and desire to engage in the program, to seek employment, and to learn to live as a responsible man. We pray that you will heal any damage done to his brain from addiction and mental illness. Give his mother the strength and endurance to continue supporting him, trusting in your goodness and faithfulness.
Mama, in the midst of your weariness, remember the words of the Lord in Galatians 6:9 WEB: "Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap if we don't give up." Your faithfulness in prayer and support for your son is not in vain. God sees your efforts and He will bring a harvest of righteousness in His perfect timing.
We must also remember that true change comes from the Lord. It is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4 WEB). Pray that the Holy Spirit will convict your son of his need for Jesus Christ as his Savior, and that he will surrender his life completely to Him. It is only in the name of Jesus that we have access to God, and it is by His name that we are saved (John 14:6, Acts 4:12 WEB).
We encourage you to continue praying and trusting in the Lord, knowing that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us (Ephesians 3:20 WEB). He is more than able to heal your son, to deliver him from addiction, and to give him a new life in Christ Jesus.
Lastly, let us address the issue of his lack of motivation. In 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 WEB, the Apostle Paul says, "For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: 'If anyone is not willing to work, neither let him eat.' For we hear of some who walk among you in rebellion, who don't work at all, but are busybodies. Now those who are that way, we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread."
Pray that God will give him the strength and will to find a job, and that he will understand the value of work. Encourage him to take responsibility for his life and to learn the ways of godly manhood. Remind him that true manhood is defined by obedience to God, responsibility, and servant-leadership, not by idleness or indulgence in worldly pleasures.
