Disciple of Prayer
My name is ###. I am in desperate need of help in prayer. I don't know how long I can endure this pain...I really wish God will help me. I have been with my husband for 14 years (11 years married). I have been suffering from a sexless marriage. I have been suffering from anxiety disorder and OCD (intrusive thoughts) since 2 years before marriage. I would often repeatedly ask him for assurance and if he still loved me or if he was still attracted to me - it might have been a turning point where it gradually pushed my husband away from me - my husband stopped yearning physical intimacy with me since 1 year before marriage. The lack of physical and emotional intimacy, and lack of affection from my husband worsened after marriage. My anxiety disorder also worsened as I kept getting rejected by my husband when I wanted intimacy. Thus I kept asking him repeated ridiculous questions and repeatedly asked him for assurance, and often asked him for affection. This in turn pushed my husband away further. It has been a vicious cycle. My husband has become emotionally avoidant and shut down. He would stonewall me and freeze whenever I talked to him about our marriage and emotional issues. In general, we seldom quarrel, and live a normal routine life without much activities together and without him putting much efforts in making our marriage loving or healthy. He also plays PC or handphone games frequently especially when he feels stressed or when he is emotionally shutdown or avoidant. Then recently I found out that he had been visiting paid sex services either alone or with his friends. I felt my world came crashing down when I realised that he would rather pay and have sex with other girls than to have physical intimacy with me. But I still love him, and am unable to let go or give up on our marriage even though we do not have kids. Please pray for me...I am not a good or obedient Christian. And I sometimes have suicidal thoughts due to my anxieties, fear and hopelessness. But I really hope God will restore my marriage. Please pray for me and my husband, please pray that my husband will put in more active efforts to rebuild our marriage with me, to book and attend marriage counselling sessions regularly with me. Please pray for my husband to rise and step out of emotional shutdown and avoidance, to stop escaping, to step up for me and our marriage, and come closer to me emotionally and physically. Please pray for my husband to love me truly and deeply. Please pray that God restores my marriage very soon - where my husband values me as his wife, puts in effort to be close to me, stays loyal, and shares emotional and physical connection enough for us to feel like true husband and wife again — where I feel wanted, loved, respected, and safe. Also please pray for me to be healed completely from anxiety disorder, OCD and depression soon. Thank you

We are truly heartbroken to hear about the struggles you are facing in your marriage and with your mental health. First, we want to remind you that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. The Bible tells us, For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB). So as we pray and discuss your situation it will be In Jesus Name.

We want to acknowledge your pain and the desperation you feel. The Bible tells us that God is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18 WEB). We are called to pray for one another, so we are grateful that you have reached out for support. Take courage in knowing that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (James 5:16 WEB).

Marriage is a sacred bond instituted by God Himself and it is clear that He desires your marriage to be restored. In the Bible, we see that God hates divorce, For the LORD, the God of Israel, says that he hates divorce and marital separation and him who covers his garment with violence (Malachi 2:16 WEB).

We must address the issues that are not aligned with biblical principles. First, your husband's use of paid sex services is a form of adultery, which is clearly forbidden in the Bible, Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled: for fornicators and adulterers God will judge (Hebrews 13:4 WEB). This sin has not only hurt you but has also grieved the heart of God. We must pray for your husband's repentance and for God to forgive and cleanse him from this sin. We do not know why he is doing this but we do know that it is a sin. So we must pray to God for his conviction, repentance, and forsaking of this sin.

Second, we want to address the issue of sexual intimacy in your marriage. The Bible is clear that sexual immorality is a sin. In your marriage, your husband should be intimate with you and not be withholding this part of your marriage. The bible tells your husband, Do not deprive one another, except it be by consent for a season, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer, and may be together again, that Satan tempt you not because of your incontinency (1 Corinthians 7:5 WEB).

We also want to address your mental health struggles. God cares about every aspect of your being, including your mental health. The Bible tells us, Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you (1 Peter 5:7 WEB). We pray that God will heal you completely from anxiety disorder, OCD, and depression.

We must also remind you that suicide is not an option for a Christian. You are precious to God and your life has immense value. The Bible tells us, For you bought us with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's (1 Corinthians 6:20 WEB). If you are feeling suicidal, please reach out to a mental health professional or a trusted friend or family member immediately.

Finally, we encourage you to remain steadfast in prayer and to trust in God's faithfulness. Keep in mind that the Bible tells us, But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:33 WEB).

Let us pray together for you and your husband.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You in Jesus' name, lifting up our sister who is in desperate need of Your intervention in her marriage and in her mental health. Lord, we pray for Your healing touch upon her, that You would deliver her from anxiety disorder, OCD, and depression. Give her Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and fill her with Your hope and joy.

Lord, we also pray for her husband. We pray that if he is not saved that he would become saved. We also pray that You would convict him of his sins and bring him to true repentance. Help him to turn away from his sinful behaviors and to seek Your forgiveness. We pray that You would soften his heart and draw him closer to You and to his wife. Help him to see the value and beauty of his marriage, and to commit to rebuilding it with his wife.

We pray that You would restore their marriage, Lord. Help them to seek You together, to communicate openly and honestly, and to forgive one another as You have forgiven us. Help them to rebuild trust and to rekindle the love and intimacy in their marriage.

Lord, we also pray for wisdom and guidance for our sister. Help her to know how to support and encourage her husband, and to be patient and loving as they work through this difficult time. Give her Your strength and courage, and help her to trust in Your faithfulness.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Dear sister, we're here for you. We see your pain and we're standing with you in prayer. Your marriage is a gift from God, and we believe He wants to restore it. We're not going to dwell on the past, but we trust that God can turn things around. Let's claim these verses together:

"For I am the Lord, who heals you." - Exodus 15:26

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." - Matthew 28:19-20

Let's pray that your husband will come to know the Lord, if he hasn't already. Let's ask God to heal your anxiety and OCD, and to fill your home with His peace and joy. Let's trust that God can restore your marriage, and that He will give you both the strength and wisdom to navigate this journey together.

We're here to support you, sister. Let's keep praying and trusting in God's faithfulness. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
