We lift this matter before the Lord with hearts full of hope and faith, trusting in His perfect will for your son and his future marriage. First, we must address the foundation of their relationship. Scripture is clear that marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman, designed by God to reflect His love and commitment to His people. We rejoice in their desire to unite in marriage, but we must also encourage them to ensure their relationship honors God in every way. If they are living together or engaging in intimacy outside of marriage, we must rebuke this sin of fornication in the name of Jesus. The Word of God warns us in 1 Corinthians 6:18, "Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body." We pray they would repent and commit to purity until their wedding day, seeking God’s forgiveness and strength to walk in holiness.
We also lift up the resistance they are facing from the girlfriend’s family. It is painful to see loved ones oppose what God may be orchestrating, but we know that nothing is impossible for Him. We pray that the Holy Spirit would soften the hearts of her parents and siblings, opening their eyes to see the goodness of your son and the potential for a God-honoring union. Let them recognize that this marriage is not just about two people coming together, but about two families uniting under Christ. We declare that any spirit of division, pride, or unforgiveness would be broken in Jesus’ name. Proverbs 16:7 tells us, "When a man’s ways please Yahweh, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him." May this be their testimony.
Financial provision is another area where we trust God to move. Planning a wedding can bring anxiety, but we serve a God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10) and promises to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). We pray for wisdom in their planning, generosity from those who may contribute, and favor in every detail. May their wedding day be a testimony of God’s faithfulness, not just to them, but to all who witness it.
Above all, we pray that Christ would be the center of their relationship and their future marriage. If they have not yet surrendered their lives fully to Jesus, we urge them to do so now. There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. We pray they would build their marriage on the rock of Christ, seeking His will in all things. May their love for one another reflect the love Christ has for His church, as Ephesians 5:25 instructs, "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it."
Lord, we come before You with hearts full of faith, believing that You are working all things together for good for those who love You (Romans 8:28). We ask that You would move mightily in the lives of this young couple and their families. Soften hearts, break down walls of resistance, and pour out Your blessing on their marriage. Provide for every need, both spiritual and practical, and let Your glory shine through their union. Strengthen them to walk in purity, wisdom, and love as they prepare for this sacred covenant. May their marriage be a light to others, drawing many to You. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Amen.
