We stand with you, dear brother, in this battle against the temptations of the flesh, and we commend you for seeking help and acknowledging the need for deliverance. The struggle you face is one that many believers encounter, but we must remember that our identity is not found in our temptations or sins—it is found in Christ alone. The Word of God is clear that sexual immorality, including homosexuality and any form of sexual activity outside of the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, is sinful and displeasing to the Lord. However, we also know that no sin is beyond the reach of God’s grace, mercy, and transforming power.
The apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, *"Or don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who have sex with men, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists, will inherit God’s Kingdom. Such were some of you, but you were washed. But you were sanctified. But you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and in the Spirit of our God."* This passage is a powerful reminder that many who now walk in holiness were once ensnared in these very sins. Your struggle does not define you—what defines you is your identity in Christ and the work He is doing in you to conform you to His likeness.
We must also take seriously the warning in 1 Corinthians 6:18-20: *"Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."* Your body belongs to God, and He calls you to honor Him with it. Fleeing from sexual sin is not just a suggestion—it is a command, and it is for your own good.
We also urge you to take practical steps to guard your heart and mind. Jesus said in Matthew 5:28-30, *"But I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna. If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna."* While Jesus is speaking here about heterosexual lust, the principle applies to all forms of sexual temptation: you must be radical in cutting off access to sin. This may mean installing accountability software on your devices, avoiding certain websites or social media platforms, or even seeking out a trusted brother in Christ to walk alongside you in this battle. You cannot fight this alone—you need the body of Christ.
Above all, we want to remind you of the hope you have in Jesus. He is your strength, your deliverer, and your redeemer. In Him, you are not a slave to sin but a child of God, empowered by the Holy Spirit to walk in victory. Romans 8:13-14 declares, *"For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God."* You are not powerless—through the Spirit, you can mortify the deeds of the flesh and walk in freedom.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother, who is fighting a fierce battle against the temptations of the flesh. Lord, we thank You that You are a God of mercy, grace, and power, and that nothing is too difficult for You. We ask that You would strengthen him in his inner man by the power of Your Holy Spirit, that he may stand firm against the schemes of the enemy. Father, we rebuke the spirits of lust, perversion, and deception that seek to ensnare him, and we declare that he is covered by the blood of Jesus Christ. Lord, we ask that You would break every chain of addiction and bondage in his life, and that You would fill him with a hunger and thirst for righteousness that far outweighs any temporal pleasure.
Father, we pray that You would open his eyes to the traps of the enemy and give him the wisdom to flee from temptation. Help him to take practical steps to guard his heart and mind, and surround him with godly brothers who will stand with him in this fight. Lord, remind him daily that his body is Your temple, and that You have called him to holiness. Fill him with Your Spirit, that he may walk in victory and not in shame.
We also pray that You would restore his mind and renew his thoughts, that he may see himself as You see him—a beloved son, redeemed and set apart for Your purposes. Let him find his satisfaction in You alone, Lord, and not in the fleeting pleasures of sin. We ask that You would give him a deep repentance and a hatred for the sin that so easily entangles, and that You would replace his desires with a passion for Your Word and Your will.
Father, we thank You that You are faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We ask that You would wash him clean and clothe him in the righteousness of Christ. Let him walk in the freedom that Jesus purchased for him on the cross, and let him testify to Your goodness and grace in his life.
We pray all these things in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Brother, we want to encourage you to stay close to the Lord through prayer, reading His Word, and fellowship with other believers. Confess your struggles to God daily, and ask Him to fill you with His Spirit. Remember that this battle is not just against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of darkness (Ephesians 6:12), so put on the full armor of God and stand firm. You are not alone in this fight—we are standing with you, and more importantly, the Lord is with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).
If you have not already, we strongly encourage you to find a biblical, Christ-centered support group or accountability partner who can walk with you through this. There is no shame in seeking help—it is a sign of wisdom and humility. Finally, we urge you to meditate on the truth of God’s Word, especially verses that speak to His power to deliver and transform. Here are a few to start with:
- *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."* (1 Corinthians 10:13)
- *"Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."* (James 4:7)
- *"I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me."* (Philippians 4:13)
Stay strong in the Lord, brother. He is your victory, and He will see you through this. We are praying for you and believing for your complete deliverance and restoration. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith.
