NEVER FORGET
September 11, 2001
“Do not forget the covenant I have made with you, and do not worship other gods. Rather, worship the LORD your God; it is he who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies.†2 Kings 17:38-39
Twelve years ago today, America suffered the greatest single day of tragedy the free world has ever experienced. September 11, 2001, was a day that will be remembered forever in Americans' hearts and minds. Where were you September 11, 2001? We were on a ministry tour. We had spent the previous night in a Louisville, Kentucky hotel.
We, the people living in the United States, have changed and adjusted to all the precautions, safety and security measures that must now be taken in airports, cruise ships, bus and train terminals for protecting the people from terrorist attacks. We only have to remember the Boston Marathon in April of what can happen when terrorists or self-radicalizedpeople want to destroy Americans.
Have you adjusted and changed your life since the enemy attacked your marriage? Are you living, talking and walking differently? Are you protecting yourself from the evil one? Are you putting on the Armor of God daily, the Hedge of Protection and the Wall of Fire around you, your spouse and loved ones? Have you learned to pray like you never did previously? Are you warning, helping and praying for other couples who are having marriage problems while you are rebuilding your marriage on the solid rock of Jesus Christ?
Thousands of people were killed on September 11, 2001. No one anticipated or saw any warning that the enemy was going to attack the Twin Towers, Washington, D.C., or that a plane would be flown into the ground in Pennsylvania. The enemy was extremely subtle and worked undercover. The same enemy is working the same way in marriages around the world. We each need to be alert and aware of the enemy's tricks and schemes that are coming against marriages.
There are millions of people who have been wounded and devastated because of the attacks of the enemy causing destruction in their marriage. They did not expect it nor notice any warning before the bomb was dropped in their home with their spouse wanting a divorce as they had fallen into the trap of the enemy.
Deliver me from my enemies, O God; protect me from those who rise up against me. Psalm 59:1
The good news is that in the United States we have gained wisdom, knowledge, understanding and discernment of who the enemy was that attacked us. Our government has been capturing and stopping the enemy by using new technology every year of more ways to defend and protect us. Osama bin Laden, who was known for the 9/11 attacks and other attacks, was killed on May 2, 2011 by Navy Seals of the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group.
May you do the same in gaining wisdom, knowledge, understanding and discernment of who the enemy is that attacked your marriage. It may appear that it was your husband or wife who did all the damage to your marriage, but God shows us in the Bible who the real enemy is in destroying His people. One or both of you may have opened the door to the enemy by many different ways. For example: God not being in the marriage, being too busy for each other and family, priorities out-of-balance, unforgiveness, anger and strife, pornography, sexual immorality, one or both spouses are not Christians or one or both spouses are living their lives by the world’s standards, and the list goes on.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12
We do not walk in fear every day in the United States, nor does God want you to walk in fear and anxiety every day as you stand for the restoration and the rebuilding of your marriage. But you need to use the spiritual weapons that our Lord God has given us to use daily: The Word of God, The Name of Jesus, the Armor of God, Love, Hedge of Thornbushes, the Blood of the Lamb, Fasting, Wall of Fire, and Praise. Believe in God's awesome mighty power and His weapons to protect our families.
In righteousness you will be established: Tyranny will be far from you; you will have nothing to fear. Terror will be far removed; it will not come near you. If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing; whoever attacks you will surrender to you…“No weapon forged against you will prevail and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. …†Isaiah 54:14-15, 17
You and I may feel that the enemy, Satan, never quits trying to destroy us, but be encouraged that your Lord God is greater, more powerful and awesome than any enemy. Our Lord God is our Defender and Protector. You may remember the Bible story of Elisha, his servant and the King of Aram who was determined to destroy the people of Israel.
God was faithful to His people as God warned the King of Israel and protected His people by using His prophet Elisha. The King of Aram became very angry and wanted to capture Elisha. The King sent horses and chariots and a strong force and surrounded the city where Elisha was staying. But God protected, delivered and saved His people. May you know that your Lord God will protect you, if you will surrender your life to your Lord God and trust Him forever!
When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh, my lord, what shall we do?†the servant asked. “Don't be afraid,†the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.†And Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes so he may see.†Then the LORD opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:15-17
The enemy may never quit trying to deceive and destroy us, but Jesus Christ paid the price by shedding His Blood on the cross for all sinners and Satan was defeated at Golgotha on the cross. Our Lord God is greater as He defeated death and the enemy!
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4 (NKJV)
May we never forget to teach our children and grandchildren the importance of what 9/11/2001 means to America.
