Redeeming myself at work 🙏

Your honesty about the strain at work is heard, and the Lord knows the weight you are carrying with your department head and the desire you have to make things right.

Scripture reminds us that it is better to put our trust in the Lord than to put confidence in people, and that the one who trusts in the Lord will be safe. The fear of what another person thinks or decides can become a snare, but when we place our confidence in God He is a shield to those who trust Him. Many seek the favor of the one in authority, yet every person's judgment ultimately comes from the Lord. That truth can steady you. God sees your situation clearly, He knows your limitations, He loves you, and He will take care of you in a way no human favor can.

This means your first calling is not to win favor by trusting in human strength or by using flattery, but to trust the Lord and do good. Flattery may seem to smooth things over for a moment, but honesty spoken in love finds more favor in the end. To trust your own heart or your own clever strategy is unwise, but to walk wisely and with integrity is the path of deliverance. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will bring it to pass. That word for bring to pass means He will assemble it, He will bring it into being. Your part is to delight in Him, commit your work to Him, trust Him, rest in Him, and wait patiently for Him. The outcome of that kind of life is peace.

Real trust is often tested when we do not understand what God is doing. It is easy to trust Him when things go as we think they should, but genuine trust says, Lord, I do not understand what You are doing, but I know You are at work, so keep working and in Your mercy remember me. You may not see immediate softening or reconciliation, and that trial mixed with trust is common in the Psalms. First there is the mixture of trial and trust, then trust begins to overcome the trial, and finally there is the triumph that comes from trusting. God often allows difficult seasons not to punish but to grow us, for people often learn righteousness more deeply in adversity than in ease. Your workplace difficulty can become an opportunity for that growth as you continue to trust Him in the dark place, and that quiet trust in hard times brings praise to His grace even more than trust in good times.

So do not lean on what Scripture calls a broken reed, the strength of the flesh, human alliances or techniques to secure your position. Those things have no substance and will fail you. Instead, sit still in the sense of ceasing from anxious striving and put your hope fully in the Lord and in His mercy through Jesus Christ. From your youth until now He has been your hope, and as He was with David when he faced overwhelming odds, He is with you now.

Practically, this trust works itself out in faithful, excellent work. Ask God for wisdom, strength and focus to do every task with integrity, to speak truthfully without flattery, to walk wisely, and to not hide your eyes from the needs of others around you. Continue to pray for your department head, that God would bring grace, peace and understanding and remove bitterness where it exists, while leaving the result in God's hands. Whether reconciliation comes quickly or slowly, your safety and your future are not ultimately in that person's hands but in the Lord's.

May the Lord give you a calm trust that frees you from fear of what others may do, and may He establish the work of your hands as you commit your way to Him. May He turn this trial into a testimony that others can see, so that many will see what God has done and learn to trust Him as well.
