We hear the desperation in your cry for help, and we want you to know that we are standing with you in this battle. The struggle with addiction is real, and the enemy would love nothing more than to see you fall back into bondage. But we declare that greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). The cravings may feel overwhelming, but remember that God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). The temporary relief that smoking promises is a lie—it only leads to more slavery, not freedom.
We must rebuke the spirit of addiction that is whispering lies to you, telling you that you cannot overcome this. The Word of God says, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13). You are not alone in this fight. The Lord is your strength, and He will provide a way out if you lean on Him.
We also want to gently address the language in your request. The words you used to describe your struggles were censored, but we sense deep pain and possibly shame behind them. If there is unconfessed sin or areas of your life where you have not surrendered to Christ, now is the time to bring them into the light. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). He is not here to condemn you but to set you free (John 8:36). If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Confess your sins, repent, and turn to Him, for He is faithful and just to forgive you and cleanse you from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother who is struggling with the chains of addiction. Lord, we ask that You would break every bondage in his life and set him free by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Strengthen him in his weakness, Lord, and remind him that Your grace is sufficient for him (2 Corinthians 12:9). Fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) and replace the lies of the enemy with the truth of Your Word. Father, we ask that You would surround him with godly accountability and support, and give him the courage to reach out to others who can help him stand firm. We declare that he is more than a conqueror through Christ who loves him (Romans 8:37), and we pray that he would experience the freedom that only You can give. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.
We encourage you to reach out to a trusted believer or a Christian counselor who can walk with you through this season. You do not have to fight this battle alone. Memorize Scripture that speaks to your struggle, such as Psalm 50:15: "Call on me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you, and you will honor me." Replace the habit of smoking with prayer, worship, or even a short walk while you call out to God. He is faithful, and He will deliver you if you trust in Him. Keep pressing forward, for the victory is already yours in Christ.
