Psalm 9:9

We rejoice with you in this beautiful truth from Psalm 9:9 and we thank you for sharing it with us, for it reminds us that Yahweh will also be a high tower for the oppressed, a high tower in times of trouble.

We cling to this promise together, knowing that in this fallen world we will face oppression, sorrow, and trouble, yet our God does not leave us to stand alone. He Himself is our refuge. We are reminded also of Psalm 46:1 where we read God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, and Nahum 1:7 which tells us Yahweh is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and he knows those who take refuge in him. What comfort it is to know that the Creator of heaven and earth knows us personally and invites us to run to Him as our stronghold.

We pray together for all who are oppressed and heavy burdened today, including you.

Father, we come before Your throne together in the name of Jesus Christ, seeking Your will and Your mercy. We thank You that You are our refuge and our high tower. We ask that You make Your presence known to every heart that is troubled, oppressed, or afraid. Draw us close under Your shelter and give us peace that surpasses understanding. Help us to trust not in our own strength but to take refuge in You alone, to rest in Your goodness and Your faithful care. Lead us to walk in Your ways and to find our security in You day by day. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We want to gently encourage you with this as well, we notice your post did not mention the name of Jesus, and we desire that you know the fullness of this refuge. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and to this stronghold of grace. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. And we are told There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. The Lord as refuge is not an abstract idea, but is made personal and accessible to us because Christ shed His blood for our sins, rose again, and opened the way for us to be reconciled to God. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, to confess your sins and believe in Him, for whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved, Romans 10:13.

We pray you will continue to dwell in that stronghold and grow deeper in the knowledge of His love and protection.

We noticed the verse you shared and it stayed with us. Calling God a refuge and a stronghold tells us you know what it is to need shelter, and you are turning to the right place.

We do not know the details of what feels oppressive or troubling right now, but we want you to know you are not facing it alone. A refuge is not an idea, it is a place to run to, and God invites you to come honestly just as you are, even when words are few.

One small thing that has helped others hold onto a truth like this is to keep it close through the day in a personal way. You might quietly say it back to God in your own words a few times, pausing on a different word each time, letting it become your own prayer as you walk, work, or try to rest. It can steady the mind without forcing feelings.

We are praying for you and will keep praying.

Father, thank You for being a safe place when life presses hard. We lift them to You and ask for Your nearness and protection today, for wisdom for each next step, and for quiet strength to keep trusting You. Carry them in Your care, in Jesus name, amen.

It is a precious and sure truth you have set before us, that the Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

What a mercy that our refuge lies not in our own strength or feeling, but in the character of God Himself. Even when you are not able to perceive it by experience, His character is the refuge of the saint. The basis of your security lies there, in His immutability, His faithfulness, His might and His goodness. He is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He abides forever the same, not as a temporary camp but as a fortress intended to stand from generation to generation. Therefore those who dwell in Him dwell surrounded as with impregnable bulwarks.

You do well to lay hold upon this word, for to call upon God in the day of trouble is itself an act that honors Him. It is a truthful recognition that He is, that He hears, that He is a fact to the suppliant soul. When the heart cries to Him, it holds converse with the living God, and it puts a crown upon every attribute of His name. He has said, Call upon Me in the day of trouble, and He has joined to it the promise, I will deliver you.

I exhort you then to run into this strong tower without hesitation and with great eagerness, as one who does not feel safe till he has entered into his God. The flight of fear is to be the flight of faith. Run, and do not linger upon the way. The Lord knows them that trust in Him, and in that knowledge there is safety. Even when the Lord Himself chastens us, it is blessed to appeal against God to God, and to rebut every slander of Satan by remembering what our God is, that He is omniscient and sees all things, that He is merciful and faithful.

Above all, remember that your refuge from both trouble and sin is Christ Himself. As the cities of refuge were provided under the law, so there is but one Christ, yet there is a Christ everywhere, a refuge at a convenient distance for every guilty and troubled soul. The law like the avenger of blood pursues the sinner, but Christ is the stronghold to which you may flee and be safe. It is through Jesus Christ alone that we are saved and find entrance into this refuge, for there is no other name given among men whereby we must be saved.

Therefore take both your sorrows and your sins to God. Your little sorrows you may take to Him, for He counts the hairs of your head, and your great sorrows you may take to Him, for He holds the world in the hollow of His hand. If you feel forsaken, do as our Lord did, and cry again, My God, my God, and be more earnest in prayer than ever. He will hear the righteous cry.

May the Lord enable you to trust Him more fully, to prove Him to be your very present help, and to find in His goodness your joy even in the day of trouble. May He teach you His statutes as you declare your ways before Him, and keep you abiding in Christ, your only refuge, till all trouble is past and you dwell with Him forever.
