IDOLATRY
SPIRITUAL ADULTERY
In Psalm 50, God is speaking specifically to His covenant people, but the message also includes a rebuke to the wicked and hypocritical. While I will not post the text here, I invite you to read the whole chapter at your own leisure, in your translation of choice. The psalm begins with God summoning the entire earth to witness the judgment of His people, who are called to a proper worship that includes both thankfulness and integrity in their daily lives. Here's a brief outline.

In the opening verses, God's summons is universal, calling the heavens and the earth to witness the judgment. This emphasizes the seriousness of the moment and the righteousness of God's judgment.

God addresses the people of Israel directly, calling them to listen to His charges against them, reminding them that He does not need their animal sacrifices. Instead, He asks for a sacrifice of thanksgiving, praise, and a life of integrity where their actions align with their words.

God rebukes those who perform outward religious acts without inner heart change. He condemns their hypocrisy, such as reciting His decrees while slandering and gossiping about others, approving of cheaters, thieves and wrongdoers, and living in sin.
Unfortunately, the response remains the same.
Isaiah 30 (NLT)
¹⁰They tell the seers, “Stop seeing visions!” They tell the prophets, “Don’t tell us what is right. Tell us nice things. Tell us lies. ¹¹Forget all this gloom. Get off your narrow path. Stop telling us about your ‘Holy One of Israel.’”
Sports is certainly a plumbline; but it's not about sports: if only it were.
Jeremiah 15:13 (NIV)
"I will give away your wealth and your treasures as plunder. I will give it away free of charge for the sins you have committed throughout your land."
"Despise not prophesyings"
