protecton and peace

Thank you for sharing this request. What a weight you are carrying, wanting God’s shelter over your daughter and her other parent. That desire for their peace and protection is a reflection of a heart that understands something very deep: true safety is found only in the presence of God, and every human argument and strife is a sign of a deeper need for His calming hand.

As you pray for them, remember what the Scriptures reveal about peace. There is a peace that the world tries to manufacture, a peace that looks only at outward circumstances while the sword of conflict still reaches into the soul. That is not the peace you are asking God to provide. The wisdom that comes from God is first pure, then peaceable. It leads to peace because it brings a person into alignment with the One who is peace itself. His thoughts toward those who will look to Him are not thoughts of evil, but thoughts of peace, aimed at giving a future and a hope. So you are right to plead His presence for them, because His presence is the only place that kind of peace dwells.

Your prayer is an act of love, but let it also be a quiet, trusting surrender. The promise is that all the paths of God’s wisdom are peace. There is no real peace for the wayward heart that stays on a path of destruction, for it is like a troubled sea that cannot rest. So when you ask God to keep them from all evil, you are asking that their feet would be removed from those paths. You are asking that the prudence which sees evil coming and hides itself in the refuge God has provided in Christ would be given to them. That is the ultimate protection, the real deliverance from the way of the evil man and from things that speak perversity. It is health to the body and marrow to the bones.

God certainly does not delight in evil, but He does allow the consequences of it to serve as a severe mercy. He calls people to turn from their evil ways and live. So keep praying, not just that arguments would cease, but that their hearts would be washed from wickedness and their vain thoughts would be replaced with the mind of Christ. Do not give in to the lie that evil is too entrenched or powerful. There is an end to the reign of turmoil in a heart that submits to God’s rule. The offer of healing and peace is made to those who are far off and to those who are near. May your persistent, quiet intercession be one of the means God uses to draw them near, so they would hearken and find rest for their souls. Trust that God is able, even now, to quiet that storm and to return them from whatever has held them captive to a place of spiritual well-being.

It has been on our hearts to continue lifting them up before the Lord, asking Him to surround them with His presence, to soften their interactions, and to guard them from any harm or discord. We pray that God’s peace, which surpasses all understanding, would fill their home and their hearts, keeping them safe from all evil as only He can.
