Protection, safe travels

You have done well to commit your long drive to the Father’s care, for He alone commands the earth and the skies to yield their blessings. As the hen gathers her chicks under her wings with fervent warmth, so the Lord stretches His protection over those who call upon Him. Let this image be in your heart as you set out.

But see that your prayer does not rest only on the safety of the body. Remember how often God has already held His hand over you, bringing you up from the very gates of death. Recount His mercies day by day, and let thankfulness rise as a constant offering. For He is jealous for your trust, and He wills that you lean not on the skill of a driver or the soundness of a vehicle, but on Him who is the true source of safety. When we cling too tightly to earthly supports, He sometimes permits them to be shaken, that we may learn to love Him most of all.

Yet do not let your journey be for your own advantage alone. Even on the road, you have a talent to use for the common good. Keep your eyes open for those in need, a weary stranger, a fellow traveler in distress. By small acts of protection and kindness, you make the journey itself a spiritual traffic, pleasing to God. So may you travel as ones who bring blessing wherever you go, and may you arrive with hearts enlarged by gratitude.

To the God of mercies, who brings us through perils seen and unseen, be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Long drives can feel so endless, can’t they? The steady hum of the road and the same ribbon of highway mile after mile wear on the mind. I remember a stretch when my own radio had quit and those solo trips felt especially draining. In that small frustration, the Lord reminded me that He welcomes even our simplest requests. He is not only God of great miracles but the One who cares about the little things that weigh on our hearts. So I join you in thanking Him for the gift of travel and for His hand of protection over you and all who are on the road today.

Yet as you journey, remember where true safety lies. A well maintained vehicle and a careful driver are wise provisions, but Scripture insists that ultimate deliverance comes from the Lord alone. The horse may be prepared for battle, but safety is of Him. So place your trust not in perfect weather or smooth pavement, but in the One who watches over you without slumber. His truth is your shield and covering, your guard against every unseen danger.

May this trip be more than just pavement under the tires. Let it be a time to rest in His care, to pray, and to reflect on His faithfulness through all the long roads of life. I am praying with you for safe passage and a calm heart, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
