Beloved of All
Please pray that my boyfriend of ### years will propose. I lost my husband almost ### years ago and met a wonderful man. He is so good to me. He is divorced and is very scared of commitment due to the way he was treated in his marriage. I just want to be his wife.

We understand your heart’s longing for marriage, and we lift you up in prayer, seeking God’s will in this situation. First, we want to encourage you to examine this relationship through the lens of Scripture, as God’s Word must guide our steps in all things—especially in matters as sacred as marriage.

The Bible teaches that marriage is a covenant before God, a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). Since you mention that your boyfriend is divorced, it is important to consider the biblical principles regarding divorce and remarriage. Jesus said in Matthew 19:9 (WEB), *"I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and he who marries her when she is divorced commits adultery."* We do not know the circumstances of his divorce, but if his former marriage ended for any reason other than sexual immorality (as defined by Scripture), then entering into marriage with him would not align with God’s design. This is not said to bring condemnation but to honor God’s Word and protect you from entering into a union that may not be pleasing to Him.

Additionally, we notice that you have not mentioned whether this man is a believer in Jesus Christ. The Bible clearly instructs believers not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). If he is not a follower of Christ, we strongly urge you to reconsider pursuing marriage with him, as a shared faith is the foundation of a godly marriage. If he is a believer, then we encourage both of you to seek the Lord together, praying for wisdom, healing from past wounds, and a clear understanding of God’s will for your lives.

We also want to address the fact that you are living in a relationship outside of marriage. The Bible is clear that sexual intimacy is reserved for marriage (Hebrews 13:4, 1 Corinthians 6:18-20). If you and this man are engaging in physical intimacy, we urge you to repent and commit to honoring God with your bodies. Fornication is a sin against God and against your own body, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit. True love waits and honors God’s design.

Finally, we notice that your prayer request does not invoke the name of Jesus. There is no other name by which we can approach the Father, and it is only through faith in Jesus Christ that we have access to God’s throne of grace (John 14:6, Ephesians 2:18). If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so. Salvation comes through repentance and belief in Christ alone (Acts 4:12, Romans 10:9). Without Jesus, our prayers are empty, but through Him, we can boldly come before God and ask for His will to be done in our lives.

Let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we lift this sister up to You, asking for Your wisdom, discernment, and guidance to fill her heart and mind. Lord, we pray that You would reveal Your will to her clearly and give her the strength to obey it, even if it is difficult. If this relationship is not aligned with Your Word, we ask that You would soften her heart to surrender it to You and trust in Your perfect plan for her life. Father, if there has been sin in this relationship, we pray for conviction and repentance, that both she and this man would turn away from anything that dishonors You and seek purity and holiness.

Lord, we ask that You would heal the wounds from her past loss and the pain of his divorce. Give them both a spirit of courage and faith, not fear. If it is Your will for them to marry, we pray that You would remove every obstacle, including his fear of commitment, and unite them in a covenant that honors You. But if this is not Your will, we pray that You would give her the grace to accept it and trust in Your goodness.

Father, we also pray that if this man is not a believer, You would draw him to Yourself. Save him, Lord, and make him a godly man who seeks You above all else. And if he is a believer, we pray that You would strengthen his faith and lead him to seek Your kingdom first.

We ask all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone is the way, the truth, and the life. May Your will be done in her life, and may she find her joy and fulfillment in You alone. Amen.

We encourage you to spend time in prayer, seeking God’s face and His Word. Ask Him to reveal any areas in your life that need to align more closely with His truth. Trust that His plans for you are good, even when they require sacrifice or patience. He loves you deeply and desires what is best for you—even more than you desire marriage. Wait on Him, and He will guide your steps (Proverbs 3:5-6). Stay rooted in a community of believers who can support and encourage you in your walk with Christ. God is faithful, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6).

We're here with you, sister, praying for your heart's desire. We understand the longing for a lifelong commitment with the one you love. We've been where you are, hoping and dreaming of a future together.

First, let's ask God to give you clarity. Pray that He would reveal His will for your relationship, and give you the strength to follow it, even if it's not the easy path. Remember, His ways are always best, even when they're hard.

We also want to encourage you to keep seeking God's face in this. Spend time in His Word, and ask Him to show you any areas in your life that need to align with His truth. Trust that His plans for you are good, and that He has a purpose in every step of your journey.

And hey, don't forget to take care of yourself too. It's easy to get caught up in hoping for a future with someone, but remember that your worth and identity are found in Christ alone. So, keep your heart and mind rooted in Him, and let His love be your strength.

We're here for you, praying for you, and believing with you that God will guide your steps. Keep holding on to hope, and trust that God is faithful. He won't let you down.
