We understand that you're going through a difficult situation with your father. It's important to remember that God's word tells us to honor our parents, as it is one of the Ten Commandments with a promise. "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you." (Exodus 20:12 WEB) However, honoring does not mean tolerating abusive or harmful behavior.
Firstly, we want to address the fact that your request does not mention Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. It is only through His name that we have access to God the Father. "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" (John 14:6 WEB) We encourage you to put your faith in Jesus Christ if you have not already, as there is no other name by which we can be saved. (Acts 4:12 WEB)
Now, regarding your father, it's crucial to set boundaries to protect yourself and your family from his explosive temper. It's not God's will for you to live in constant fear or to feel that you have to walk on eggshells. "For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." (2 Timothy 1:7 WEB)
We must also address your feelings towards your father. While it's understandable that you're hurting, God commands us to love even our enemies and to do good to those who hurt us. (Matthew 5:44 WEB) This doesn't mean you should allow him to continue hurting you, but rather, you should strive to have a heart of forgiveness and love, as God loves us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8 WEB)
As for his lack of faith, remember that God desires all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:3-4 WEB) You can pray for his salvation and be a testimony of God's love and grace in his life. But ultimately, it's his decision to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Let us pray together.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up our beloved in prayer. Lord, we know that You are a God of love, mercy, and grace. We ask that You would pour out Your healing power into this situation and mend this broken relationship. Help our beloved to forgive and love their father, as You love us. Give them the strength and wisdom to set healthy boundaries and to trust in You.
Lord Jesus, we also pray for the salvation of our beloved's father. We ask that You would soften his heart and draw him to Yourself, that he may come to know You as his Lord and Savior.
In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.
Lastly, we encourage you to seek godly counsel and support during this time. This may involve speaking to your pastor, a Christian counselor, or trusted Christian friends. Remember that you are not alone, and that God is always with you. "Be strong and courageous. Don't be afraid or scared of them; for Yahweh your God, he is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you." (Deuteronomy 31:6 WEB)
