Dear Heavenly Father,
In Isaiah, you invited me to "come now and let us reason together." You said that you would blot out my transgressions and would not remember my sins. I am coming now to state my case- to try to reason and contend with you as to why you should answer my prayer.
All good things come from you Lord and you satisfy my desires with good things (Psalm 103:4-5). You told me not to be anxious, but to present my requests to You. Please Lord, cover me with the peace that surpasses all understanding. Guard the gates of my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus according to Philippians 4:6-7.
At the beginning of creation you said it is not good that man should be alone and then in Genesis 2:18, you created Eve to be a suitable wife for Adam. Desiring a husband is neither evil nor selfish because marriage is honorable (Hebrews 13:4). You made the covenant of marriage sacred. Please give me a husband whose love for me is only outmatched by his love for you. A man who will honor me according to 1 Peter 3:7 and my marriage vows and a man whom I will be attracted to physically, emotionally and spiritually. A man who will love me like Solomon loved the Shunamite. Like Christ loves the Church.
Keep me from attaching myself to yet another man out of desperation. Keep me from settling for a relationship that is convenient, feeds my vanity or my insecurities. Keep me from doing or thinking anything that does not bring honor to my Father. Guard my purity Lord. Teach me to wait on you. Release from me the baggage of past relationships and prepare me for the man you have chosen to be my husband. Free me from any hindrances to a healthy and godly marriage: insecurities, habitual sins, selfishness, emotional hurts, envy, argument, strife. Grow good fruit on this tree O Lord. Prune me and cut off any branches and throw them in the fire that don't display the fruit of the spirit. When (not if) I meet him, confirm to me that he is the The One. If I have already met him and he was not The One Yet, I may have tried to force matters to happen my way and in my time and not trusted that your ways are better than my ways and your time is the right time. Prepare me that, in due season, I will be the right one at the right time for the one you have prepared for me.
Dispel any unrealistic expectations that set me up for disappointment. In this season of waiting, I will look to you alone to be my companion and my friend because you said you know me by name and would never leave me or forsake me. Because you know the thoughts that you think toward me to give me a future and a hope. If I have found grace in your sight, you said that you will also do this thing that I have spoken.
I make a commitment to trust you and do good while you are faithful to feed me. I will honor you with my possessions- my time, talent and treasure and allow you to prove your promise to bless me like you promised in Malachi. I commit all my ways to you and trust that you will perform your word in Psalm 37:35 and bring it to pass. Please honor this plea before the Lord.
Christ Jesus, come quickly!
Amen
