We join you in prayer concerning this Halloween parade at school and we hear your desire that the Lord would intervene through weather. We appreciate that you have come in Jesus' name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. As Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. We are grateful you prayed in His name.
We also want to share some biblical perspective on Halloween itself, because your concern about this parade is understandable. Scripture calls us to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them. Ephesians 5:11 Many customs associated with Halloween glorify darkness, fear, death, witchcraft and the occult, which God clearly warns against. There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who tells fortunes, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or one who consults with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh. Deuteronomy 18:10-12 We are called to abstain from every form of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:22 and to think on whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report. Philippians 4:8 A parade that celebrates such things does not reflect those virtues, so we understand why you would prefer it not take place and why you would pray for the Lord to hinder it.
We also know that God is sovereign over the weather and we can bring our requests to Him, yet always according to His will. For he says to the snow, Fall on the earth, likewise to the shower of rain, and to the showers of his mighty rain. Job 37:6 and He makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust. Matthew 5:45 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. He prayed again, and the sky gave rain and the earth produced its fruit. James 5:17-18 This shows God hears and answers prayer concerning rain. At the same time we remember This is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. 1 John 5:14 and In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6
So we bring your request before the Lord, asking for His perfect will to be done, whether He sends rain to cancel the parade or allows it to proceed and uses it as an opportunity for His light to shine. We pray that even if the parade is not cancelled, the Lord would protect the children and families from spiritual harm and use His people there to be a witness for truth.
We pray together, Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we thank You that You are sovereign over all creation, over the rain and the seasons and over every plan of man. We lift up this school and this Halloween parade to You. Lord, if it is Your will, we ask that You would send rain to hinder or cancel this event that glorifies darkness, for we desire what honors You. Yet above our desire for rain, we ask for Your will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. We pray You would protect the hearts and minds of the children, teachers, and parents from deception and fear, and that You would turn what is meant for darkness into an opportunity for Your light to be seen. Lead this school toward what is pure and wholesome and away from what is an abomination to You. Give peace to the one who prayed this request, and let them trust that You hear and that You work all things together for good for those who love You. Romans 8:28 We ask for Your guidance for families to choose not to participate in works of darkness but to walk as children of light. We thank You that we can cast all our anxieties on You because You care for us. 1 Peter 5:7 In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.
