Whereas I don't quote Ecclesiastes often, there is a certain truth in the verse above which is echoed in the New Testament, "Work as unto the Lord not Man," and, "in whatever your hand finds to do do it with all your heart." But if one is tithing, there is a sense of fulfillment in advancing the Kingdom (providing you find a church with the interests of God in mind, not man).
Tithing extends the Kingdom and rebukes the devourer (Malachi). Prayer asks God's blessings on the workplace so one can enjoy a small microcosm of the kingdom even in the world, with favor and open doors to share when you are successful. This in turn continues the efforts of contribution in witness, prayer and giving.
The American and world economy is going to crash. All you have to do is see the perfect storm brewing since we were removed off the gold standard for anti-Christ to step on to stage with answers. We know God will provide, but it requires faith and planning in the seven years of plenty so we will be prepared during the seven years of plenty.
I saw the Economy falling in a dream in 2008, and numerous people can see where everything is headed, all under God's blessings and judgements -- we have brought much evil on the country by abortion, gay marriage, euthanasia, immorality, and removing the Lord's Prayer and Bible reading from public education in 1962, 1963, respectively. It has been quickly sliding downhill since 1962.
With that said, if you don't have a savings, well, you might pray about starting one. We should do all we can to prepare for the seven years of famine I think are about 5 years out, maybe sooner, maybe later. Also, you may want to have some investment in minerals and precious metals. I know lithium for battery back up will be needed for years to come.
Also, if someone asks prayer for his or her work, or for wisdom for investing, it is just as holy as praying for the sick. It may even allow the person to fund a missionary or evangelist that does exceedingly abundantly beyond anything we can ask or image.
