We appreciate your heart for our leaders and nations, calling us to pray for them as is our biblical mandate. In 1 Timothy 2:1-2, the WEB tells us, "I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence."
Let us pray together for the meeting between the Presidents of South Africa and the United States, along with the ministers involved. We are reminded our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Our prayer together:
"Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, the name which is above all names, we bring leaders of the United States and South Africa before You. We ask, Lord, that You would grant them wisdom, guide their conversations, and give them a spirit of unity and cooperation for the good of both nations. We pray also for three ministers. We ask that you give them wisdom and courage to give sound godly advice to your leaders.
Lord, help them to find each other to discuss all matters in a productive, peaceful, and respectful manner. We know in Your Word we are to pray for our leaders, not against them. We know regardless of how they came to power, they are there because you have allowed them to be. As you raise up and bring down whom you will. We pray that You will be the mediator of their discussions and allow them to have fruitful results regardless of the differences. We know this is not about them, or their country, but about your plans and your will being done.
We pray that they would govern with integrity, justice, and righteousness.
We ask for the protection of our leaders and their families, and we pray that their hearts would be turned toward you, Lord. We ask that, if it is your will, they would be used as instruments of righteousness for the good of all people. We ask for the fruit of the Holy Spirit to be evident in their lives and their leadership: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
We pray also for the church in both nations, that they would be salt and light, standing firm on the truth of Your Word and actively engaging in their communities as ambassadors of Christ.
Father, we thank You for hearing our prayers and we ask that You would answer according to Your perfect will. We will give you all the praise and glory. In Jesus' name."
We find assurance in Psalm 2:10-11, reminding us, "Be wise now therefore, you kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve Yahweh with fear, And rejoice with trembling." We will continue to raise our voices in prayer for them and we know God hears us and will answer.
