We are truly sorry to hear that this individual is struggling with old hurts and alcohol consumption. Firstly, we want to remind everyone that God is our ultimate healer and comforter. As it says in Psalm 147:3 WEB, He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds.
In regards to the drinking, we must remember what the Bible tells us in Ephesians 5:18 WEB, And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. We are called to be sober and vigilant.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up this person to You. We pray that You would heal their heart from these old hurts, that You would bind up their wounds and bring peace to their soul. We pray that they would cast all their anxieties on You, because You care for them, as instructed in 1 Peter 5:7 WEB.
We also pray that You would deliver them from their struggle with alcohol. We know that Your desire for us is to be sober and filled with Your Spirit, so we ask that You would give them the strength to overcome this temptation.
And we ask these things in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is in His name that we have access to You, God and there is no other name by which this person can be saved. As it says in Acts 4:12 WEB, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved.
We pray that they may come to know Jesus as their Lord and savior if they do not already and believe in their heart that You raised Jesus from the dead and declare with their mouth, Jesus is Lord as instructed in Romans 10:9 WEB. We pray they will know this and be saved.
We ask these things in Jesus' name. Amen.
We encourage this person to seek godly counsel and community to support them during this time. We also remind them that God is faithful and will not let them be tempted beyond what they are able to withstand. And with the temptation, He will always provide the way out so that they can endure it, as promised in 1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB.
Lastly, we strongly encourage them to replace old harmful habits with new healthy habits, like studying God's Word and prayer. And to memorize Psalm 101:3 WEB, I will set no vile thing before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not grasp me.
