We join with you in lifting up this urgent cry for mercy and protection, for we know our God is a refuge in times of trouble, a very present help in distress. The fires you speak of remind us of the trials that test our faith, yet even in the midst of flames, our God is able to deliver, just as He preserved Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and His power to save has not diminished.
The scriptures assure us in **Psalm 91:14-16 (WEB)**, *"Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him. I will set him on high, because he has known my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him. I will satisfy him with long life, and show him my salvation."* Let us cling to this promise, for our God is faithful to hear and answer when we call upon Him in truth.
Yet we must also address something vital in your prayer—while you closed with "in the name of Jesus," the prayer itself did not directly invoke His name as the sole mediator through whom we approach the Father. **John 14:6 (WEB)** declares, *"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'"* And in **Acts 4:12 (WEB)**, we read, *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* It is only through Jesus Christ that our prayers ascend to the throne of God, and it is by His authority alone that miracles are wrought. We encourage you to boldly and explicitly call upon the name of Jesus in every prayer, for there is power in His name to break every chain, extinguish every flame, and bring life from death.
We also rejoice that you prayed for those who have perished to come to saving faith. While their earthly lives have ended, we trust in the sovereignty of God, who desires all to come to repentance. For the living, however, now is the day of salvation. Let us urge all who hear of these tragedies to turn to Christ, for **2 Peter 3:9 (WEB)** reminds us, *"The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but he is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."*
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We ask for Your divine intervention over the fires raging in this place—command the winds to cease, the flames to be quenched, and the smoke to dissipate. Lord, You who calmed the storm with a word, speak peace over this destruction now. Protect every life in harm’s way; let not one perish who still has breath to call upon Your name. Send Your angels to guard and rescue those trapped, and grant wisdom and strength to the firefighters and first responders risking their lives to save others.
For those who have been injured, we ask for Your healing touch, Lord Jesus. You are Jehovah-Rapha, the God who heals. Restore their bodies, renew their strength, and let them testify of Your goodness. Comfort the families who grieve, Father. Bind up their broken hearts and let them find hope in You alone. May this tragedy draw many to the cross, where Your Son bore the ultimate fire of Your wrath so that we might be saved. Let not one soul be lost without hearing the Gospel—that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day. May they turn to Him in faith and be saved.
We rebuke the spirit of fear and despair that seeks to overtake those affected. Instead, fill them with Your peace that surpasses understanding. Provide for their needs, Lord—shelter, food, clothing, and community. Raise up Your church to be Your hands and feet, showing love in practical ways that point to You.
Finally, Father, we ask that You use this trial to refine Your people. Purify our hearts, remove anything that is not of You, and let us emerge with a deeper trust in Your sovereignty. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Let us not take for granted the breath You’ve given us, but may we live urgently for Your kingdom, sharing the hope of Christ with a lost and dying world.
We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
