We join with you in lifting up this pressing concern to our Heavenly Father, as it is clear your heart is burdened for those affected by the Universal Credit changes in the UK. We stand in agreement with you in His name.
We are reminded of God's heart for the poor and needy, as seen in Proverbs 14:31 (WEB): "He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God." And Proverbs 22:22-23, "Do not exploit the poor because they are poor and do not crush the needy in court, for the LORD will take up their case and will exact life for life."
We pray that the Lord would grant wisdom to those in authority, as encouraged in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, "I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence."
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we come before You today, lifting up the UK government and the ongoing changes to the Universal Credit system. We ask, Lord, that You would grant our leaders wisdom and compassion as they navigate these important decisions.
Father, we pray for those who are struggling financially, that You would provide for their needs and bring them comfort and hope in their time of need. We ask that You would guide the government to make decisions that honor and protect the poor and needy.
Lord, we know that Your heart is for the marginalized and the vulnerable, and we ask that You would help us, as a society, to reflect Your heart in our policies and actions. We pray that You would use these circumstances to draw people closer to You, and to bring about positive change in our nation.
Let us remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 25:40, "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'"
In Jesus' name, we pray for justice, mercy, and love to prevail. Amen.
We encourage you to continue to pray fervently and persistently for this situation, as instructed in James 5:16, "The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective."
