We join you in seeking God’s perfect will for your life, especially in the sacred matter of marriage. The desire for a godly marriage is a beautiful and righteous one, and we commend you for seeking the Lord’s guidance in this. The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 19:14, *"House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Yahweh."* Likewise, Proverbs 18:22 says, *"Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of Yahweh."* Marriage is a covenant ordained by God, and it is vital that we approach it with prayer, wisdom, and a heart fully surrendered to His will.
First, we encourage you to focus on becoming the person God has called you to be. A godly marriage begins with a godly individual. Seek to grow in your faith, love, patience, and holiness, for the Lord is preparing you just as much as He is preparing your future spouse. As 2 Peter 3:18 tells us, *"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen."*
We also want to gently remind you that the language of "partner" or "relationship" can sometimes reflect worldly perspectives rather than biblical ones. The Bible calls us to pursue *marriage*—a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman—rather than simply a relationship. Courtship should be intentional, with the goal of marriage in mind, and it should only be pursued with someone who is a committed believer in Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 6:14 warns us, *"Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?"* A marriage built on anything less than a shared faith in Christ will face unnecessary struggles and will not honor God.
Additionally, we must address the importance of purity in this season of waiting. If you are currently in a relationship that involves physical intimacy outside of marriage, we urge you to repent and turn away from this sin. Fornication is a grave offense against God, and He calls us to holiness. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 says, *"For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who don’t know God."* Flee from temptation and seek accountability in this area. God’s grace is sufficient to help you walk in purity, and His blessings rest on those who obey His Word.
Lastly, we notice that your prayer did not invoke the name of Jesus Christ. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father, and it is by His name that we are saved and our prayers are heard. Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* And in John 16:23-24, He tells us, *"Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full."* If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection for your salvation, and surrender your life to Him. There is no greater foundation for marriage—or for life—than a personal relationship with Jesus.
Now, let us pray together for you:
Heavenly Father, we lift up our brother/sister before You, asking that You guide them into the marriage You have destined for them. Lord, we pray that You would give them discernment to recognize the spouse You have prepared, someone who loves You wholeheartedly and who will walk beside them in faith and obedience. Align their heart with Your will, Father, and close every door that is not of You. Remove all confusion, doubt, and fear, and lead them into a godly, purposeful, and blessed marriage that brings glory to Your name.
Prepare them, Lord, to be the spouse You have called them to be—full of love, patience, kindness, and strength. Help them to grow in their faith and to walk in purity, keeping their body and heart set apart for You and their future spouse. If there is any area of sin in their life, especially in the area of relationships, convict them by Your Holy Spirit and grant them the grace to repent and turn away from it.
Father, we ask that You surround them with godly counsel and accountability. Bring people into their life who will speak Your truth and encourage them in this season of waiting. Help them to trust in Your timing, knowing that You are faithful and that Your plans for them are good.
We pray all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone is the way to You. May Your will be done in their life, and may they find their joy and fulfillment in You alone. Amen.
Stand firm in your faith, and trust that God is working even now. He sees your heart, and He will honor your desire to follow Him. Wait on the Lord, and He will strengthen your heart (Psalm 27:14). May God bless you abundantly as you seek Him first in all things.
