Prayer to make better friends and connections

We join with you in this beautiful and godly desire for deep, lasting friendships and for peace in your family, and we bring your request before the throne of grace together in Jesus' name.
We are encouraged that you are seeking friendships marked by the fruit of the Holy Spirit. The Scripture tells us what that fruit looks like, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control Galatians 5:22-23. To desire friends who walk in these things is to desire what God Himself desires for His people. We also hear your heart for a peaceful family, which is a precious gift from the Lord, for we are told How good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity Psalm 133:1 and If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18.
The Word gives us wisdom about friendships. We are reminded that Iron sharpens iron so a man sharpens his friend's countenance Proverbs 27:17 and that A friend loves at all times Proverbs 17:17. We are also warned Don't be deceived. Evil companionships corrupt good morals 1 Corinthians 15:33. Therefore we encourage you to seek these friendships intentionally within the fellowship of a Bible believing local church, where you can serve, study the Word, and walk alongside other believers who are pursuing Christ. As you seek friends who bear good fruit, we also encourage you to continue to cultivate that same fruit in your own life by abiding in Christ, for apart from Him we can do nothing.
We also want to gently and lovingly point out that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We share this because there is no greater connection than our connection to God Himself, and that connection is only made possible through Jesus. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. And we are told There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is only by placing our faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, that we have access to God in prayer and the promise of eternal life. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to call upon His name and trust Him as your Lord and Savior.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ. We lift up this dear one to You and thank You for the desire You have placed in their heart for godly friendships and for a peaceful home. Lord, we ask that You would lead them to friendships that are centered on You, friendships with brothers and sisters who walk in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Bring into their life companions who will sharpen them, encourage them, speak truth in love, and spur them on toward You. Guard them from relationships that would pull them away from Your will, and help them to be that kind of faithful friend to others as well.
We also pray for their family, that You would pour out Your peace upon their household. Let the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7. Teach them to walk with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace Ephesians 4:2-3. Where there has been strife or distance, bring healing, forgiveness, and understanding. Let their family be a place of grace and refuge that honors You.
Draw this dear one ever closer to Yourself, Lord, that their deepest fellowship would be with You. Help them to grow in Your Word and to find their place in the body of Christ where lasting, Christ centered friendships can flourish. We ask all of these things in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our only hope. Amen.

To desire friends who carry the fruits of the Holy Spirit is to desire what God Himself delights to give. The true Christian is not only to be seen in the singing of hymns and the offering of prayers, but he is to be distinguished by the honesty, integrity, courage and faithfulness of his ordinary character. Where you find love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control, there you find the work of the Spirit, and such friends are a blessing indeed.
We pray that the Lord will bring into your path those who know fellowship with Christ and show it in their lives. One of the fruits of Christian sympathy will be seen in a kindly association with all Christians, and one of the great needs of the church is not so much Christian preaching as Christian talking, Christian conversation in the parlor that seasons all speech with the savor of Christ. May the Lord lead you to such company, and may He make you such a friend to others, upright in all your dealings, affectionate and faithful, for to live Christ is after all true friendship with Christ. He who would have godly friends must seek first to please God rather than men, and to find his highest joy in communion with God, for there the life of the real Christian grows and makes advances.
We pray also for your family, that the peace of God which passes understanding may rest upon your household. A good man in a house is good store to the family. Godly people hedge the mansion in with their prayers. May the Lord make your home to be marked by that affection and gentleness which belongs to those who fear Him, and may your table and your hearth be places where Christ is honored and where love reigns.

Your desire for friendships rooted in godliness is good, and I gladly join you in prayer for it. Scripture teaches that true friendship is not formed by mere eating and drinking together, or by neighborhood or common interests, but upon love for God and virtue. As it is written, brother aided by brother becomes a fortified city, and those who associate with us for virtue's sake remain continually, enduring every change, while friendships built only on outward things fade when those things fade.
I pray with you that God will lead you to people who walk by the Spirit and show His fruit in their lives, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control, and that He will knit your hearts together in that love which makes many souls to be one soul. May He give you friends who will help you toward what is profitable, who will hinder what leads away from Him, who will be quick to forgive a hasty word, to bear burdens and to stretch out a hand when one is falling. Such friendship is a wall that is hard to overpower, and it brings harmony sweeter than any music, rejoicing the heart of God.
I also join you in praying for your family, that God would grant you peace in your home. We are members of one another, and where love dwells the whole body is held together. May He make your home quiet from strife and passion, established in patience and mutual love, that all within it may live in unity and godliness.

Your desire for friendships marked by the character of Christ and for peace in your home is a good and godly desire, and it is right to bring it to the Lord in prayer.
God wants you to live in peace. Scripture shows that He has offered a peace treaty to all who have been at war with Him. Through the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross, your sins can be forgiven and you can have peace with God. When you have peace with God, He then gives you His peace within your own heart, quieting the inner turmoil and conflict. That inner peace then makes it possible to have peace with others. For that reason the Bible always puts grace first and then peace, because you cannot truly know the peace of God until you have first received the grace of God.
The wisdom that comes from above is peaceable. It leads to peace and it sows in peace. As it is written, the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace, and those who sow in peace will reap a harvest of righteousness. If you want relationships that last and a home that is quiet and whole, ask the Lord to make you a person who sows peace, who walks in that heavenly wisdom, and who follows peace with all people together with holiness.
The Lord also places us in a family. When you are in Christ you become a new creation and you belong to the family of God, one with every other child of God. Lasting friendships are not found only in shared interests, but in shared life in Jesus. The people who most display love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control are those who walk closely with Him. Pray that He will bring such people across your path, and also pray that He will make you that kind of friend to others, one who does good to all as opportunity comes, who is a faithful and trustworthy presence, and who leaves every place and every relationship better because Christ is at work in you.
It is better to have a little with quietness and peace than a house full of conflict. A peaceful family is a great blessing, and it grows as each person first finds peace with God and then learns to live out His grace day by day.
