Prayer to get to know a brother in Christ more

I have a crush on a brother in Christ at church and have been praying to the Lord for clarity and guidance on whether he is the man the Lord has for me as a husband or not. I have been praying to the Lord for an opportunity to talk to him on a deeper level and exchange numbers, because I am a very shy person and feel anxious when I am speaking to him. He was not at church today and I am not sure if this is a sign from the Lord. Also, we might be meeting still today in another prayer meeting, if we did we meet, I am praying that if the Lord sees this as something good, that he would open the door for a deeper conversation and for exchanging numbers. I pray for courage and confidence from the Holy Spirit, and pray for leadership from this brother in Christ. In Jesus name I ask, Amen.

We hear your heart’s longing and share in your desire to seek the Lord’s will in this matter. It is beautiful that you are bringing this before Him, asking for clarity and courage rather than relying on your own feelings or timidity. The Lord delights in those who seek His guidance, and He promises to direct our steps when we acknowledge Him in all our ways (Proverbs 3:5-6).

First, let us affirm that your desire to know this brother in Christ more deeply is not wrong in itself—God created us for fellowship, and marriage is a sacred covenant designed by Him. However, we must always examine our motives. Are you seeking this connection primarily because of loneliness, attraction, or a genuine desire to discern if this man could be a godly husband? The Lord looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7), and He will honor a pursuit that is rooted in His will rather than our own emotions.

Your shyness and anxiety are not obstacles to the Lord but opportunities for Him to work. Remember, the Holy Spirit does not give a spirit of fear but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). When you feel anxious, take those feelings to the Lord in prayer and ask Him to replace them with His peace. He is faithful to strengthen you in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Regarding the brother’s absence from church today, we must be cautious not to overinterpret circumstances as "signs." The Lord speaks primarily through His Word, prayer, and the counsel of mature believers. While He can use circumstances to guide us, we should not become overly focused on trying to "decode" His will through them. Instead, trust that He is sovereign and will open or close doors in His perfect timing (Revelation 3:7-8).

If you do see him at the prayer meeting today, take comfort in knowing that the Lord goes before you. Pray for wisdom in your words and actions, and trust that He will provide an opportunity if it is His will. If the conversation flows naturally toward exchanging numbers, that may be a door He is opening. However, if it does not, do not force it or see it as a failure. The Lord’s timing is perfect, and His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11).

We must also gently remind you to guard your heart (Proverbs 4:23). While it is natural to feel drawn to someone, we are called to pursue relationships with purity and intentionality. If this brother is not the one the Lord has for you, it is far better to know that now than to invest emotionally in a connection that may lead to heartache. Trust that the Lord has someone for you—whether this man or another—and that His plan is worth waiting for.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your will in this situation. Lord, You know the desires of our sister’s heart, and You know what is best for her. We ask that You would grant her clarity and peace as she seeks to discern Your will. Remove any fear or anxiety that may be holding her back, and replace it with the confidence that comes from knowing You are with her.

Father, if this brother is the man You have for her, we pray that You would open the door for them to connect in a way that honors You. Give her the words to say and the courage to step out in faith. If this is not Your plan, we ask that You would close the door gently and redirect her heart toward Your perfect will.

Lord, we also pray for this brother in Christ. If he is to be a part of her life, we ask that You would prepare his heart as well. Give him wisdom, maturity, and a desire to lead in a way that reflects Your love. If he is not the one, we trust that You will guide him in his own journey.

Above all, Father, we ask that You would be glorified in this situation. May Your name be lifted high, and may our sister’s trust in You grow deeper, regardless of the outcome. We ask all of this in the precious name of Jesus, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Continue to seek the Lord diligently in this matter, sister. Spend time in His Word, and consider seeking counsel from a trusted, mature believer in your church who can offer wisdom and perspective. The Lord is faithful, and He will not leave you without guidance. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and He will direct your path.

Hey there,

We've been thinking about you and your heart's longing to know this brother in Christ better. It's beautiful that you're seeking the Lord's will in this, asking for clarity and courage. We're right there with you, praying alongside you.

We want to encourage you to keep trusting in the Lord's perfect timing. If it's His will for you two to connect more deeply, He will open the door. Remember, He promises in Revelation 3:7-8 that He will open doors that no one can shut and shut doors that no one can open. So, let's trust Him to do just that.

If you do see him today, why not try striking up a conversation about something you both enjoy or have in common? This could be a natural way to exchange numbers. But remember, if it doesn't happen today, that's okay too. The Lord's timing is perfect, and His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11).

Let's keep praying together:

"Lord, we trust in Your perfect will. If this brother is the one You have for our sister, we pray that You would open the door for them to connect in a way that honors You. Give her the courage to step out in faith and the wisdom to know what to say. If this is not Your plan, we ask that You would gently close the door and redirect her heart towards Your perfect will. Above all, we ask that You would be glorified in this situation. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Keep seeking the Lord diligently in this matter. Spend time in His Word and consider seeking counsel from a trusted, mature believer in your church. The Lord is faithful, and He will not leave you without guidance. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and He will direct your path (Proverbs 3:5-6).

You're not alone in this. We're here for you, praying and believing with you.

In love,
