We rejoice that you have recognized your need to return to your first love, Jesus Christ, for He alone is the source of true life and restoration. The Lord calls us to repentance when we stray, and His arms are always open to receive those who turn back to Him. The Scripture reminds us in Revelation 2:4-5, *"But I have this against you, that you left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the first works; or else I am coming to you swiftly, and will remove your lampstand out of its place, unless you repent."* Your desire to return to Him is a work of the Holy Spirit, and we encourage you to press into His presence with a heart of humility and surrender.
We also lift up the burden you carry for the one you mentioned, who is struggling with depression and uncertainty. It is right to pray for God’s will above all else, for His ways are higher than ours, and His plans are for good and not for harm (Jeremiah 29:11). While it is natural to desire relief from suffering, we must trust that the Lord is working even in the valleys to refine and draw this person closer to Himself. Depression can feel overwhelming, but we know that God is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). Encourage this person to seek the Lord in prayer, in Scripture, and in the fellowship of believers, for isolation can deepen despair. If they are not already in the Word daily, this is the first step toward renewal. The psalmist declares in Psalm 42:11, *"Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, the saving help of my countenance, and my God."*
As for the job you mentioned, we pray that the Lord would provide according to His perfect will—not just for employment, but for purpose and direction. Sometimes, the Lord uses seasons of waiting to redirect our steps or to teach us dependence on Him. Trust that if a job is His will, He will open the door, and if not, He has something better in store. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."*
Now, let us pray together for you and for this person you care so deeply about:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude that You are a God who pursues Your children even when they wander. Lord, we lift up our brother/sister who has strayed from their first love, Jesus Christ. Father, draw them back into the warmth of Your presence. Renew their passion for You, restore their joy in salvation, and fill them with the Holy Spirit so they may walk in obedience and love. Forgive them for any sin that has separated them from You, and cleanse them by the blood of Jesus. Help them to remember the height from which they have fallen and to repent, returning to the works of faith and love they once walked in. Strengthen them, Lord, to resist the temptations of the world and to fix their eyes on You alone.
Lord, we also bring before You the one who is battling depression. You see their pain, their weariness, and their longing for relief. Father, be their comfort and their hope. Lift the heaviness from their spirit and remind them that they are not alone—You are with them, and You will never leave them nor forsake them. Surround them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). If there is any sin, bitterness, or unforgiveness weighing them down, convict them and lead them to repentance so they may experience Your freedom. Provide them with godly community and wisdom to seek help if needed, whether through counsel, medical care, or the support of believers.
For the matter of employment, Lord, we ask that Your will be done. If it is Your plan for this person to find work, open the doors that no man can shut. Give them favor in the eyes of those who make decisions, and provide not just a job, but a place where they can glorify You and find fulfillment in serving You through their work. If this season of waiting is for a greater purpose, give them patience and faith to trust You. Provide for their needs according to Your riches in glory, and let them lack no good thing as they seek You first (Matthew 6:33).
Finally, Father, we thank You for the love and concern this person has for others. Use them as a vessel of Your comfort and encouragement. Bind them together in unity and faith, and let their lives be a testimony of Your goodness and grace.
We ask all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone is the way, the truth, and the life. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done in their lives, for Your glory. Amen.
We love you, dear brother/sister, and we are standing with you in this journey back to the heart of Jesus. Keep pressing in, keep seeking Him, and do not grow weary in doing good. The Lord is faithful, and He will complete the work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6). If you have not already, we encourage you to confess any known sin before the Lord, to spend time in His Word daily, and to surround yourself with believers who can walk alongside you in accountability and encouragement. You are not alone in this—we are with you, and more importantly, the Lord is with you. Be strong and courageous, for He is your strength and your song (Exodus 15:2).
