Prayer to do well in school

What a wonderful pursuit—to study Christian Ministry and prepare yourself for the work of the Kingdom! We rejoice with you in this calling, for the Lord has set apart those who seek to serve Him with their minds, hearts, and hands. The Apostle Paul reminds us in 2 Timothy 2:15, *"Give diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn’t need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth."* Your studies are not just for academic success but for the equipping of the saints and the glory of God.

Yet we must also ask: while you seek prayer for success in school, where is your trust placed? Do you seek first the approval of man—grades, accolades, or personal achievement—or do you seek the approval of God, who examines the heart? Jesus warns us in Matthew 6:33, *"But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well."* Let your studies be an act of worship, not a pursuit of empty success. If anxiety or fear of failure creeps in, remember Philippians 4:6-7: *"In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."*

We also notice that your request, while well-intentioned, does not invoke the name of Jesus Christ—our only Mediator and the name by which we are saved. There is no other name under heaven by which we may approach the Father (Acts 4:12). It is *only* through faith in Jesus that we have access to God’s throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ as Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now. Romans 10:9 declares, *"That if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."* Without Christ, even the noblest pursuits—like ministry—are in vain. But in Him, all things hold together (Colossians 1:17).

Now, let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we lift up this brother/sister before You, asking that You grant them wisdom, discipline, and a hunger for Your Word as they study Christian Ministry. Lord, let their mind be sharp, their heart be teachable, and their spirit be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Remove any distraction, fear, or pride that would hinder their learning. May they not seek merely to *do well* by the world’s standards but to be *well-pleasing* to You (2 Corinthians 5:9).

We ask that You surround them with godly mentors and professors who will speak truth into their life. Guard them from the deception of empty philosophy or worldly wisdom that masquerades as biblical teaching (Colossians 2:8). Let their studies be rooted in Scripture alone, for Your Word is a lamp to their feet and a light to their path (Psalm 119:105).

Most of all, Father, we pray that their heart would be fully surrendered to Jesus Christ—not just as Savior, but as Lord. If there is any area of unbelief or resistance, convict them by Your Spirit and draw them deeper into Your truth. Let their ministry flow from a life hidden in Christ, not from human effort or ambition.

We ask these things in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.

Stand firm in your studies, but stand firmer in your faith. The Lord is with you—do not fear, for He who called you is faithful (1 Thessalonians 5:24). If you ever waver in your calling or face doubt, remember the words of Jesus in John 15:16: *"You didn’t choose me, but I chose you and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain."* Press on, dear one. The harvest is ripe, and the Lord is preparing you for His good work.

Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You today, lifting up our sister/brother in Christ. We ask that You would fill them with Your Spirit, giving them a hunger and thirst for Your Word. Help them to study diligently, not just for good grades, but to know You more deeply. Give them understanding, clarity, and focus in their studies. Help them to stand firm in their faith, even when faced with challenging ideas or doubts.

Lord, we also pray for their heart. Keep it humble, teachable, and sensitive to Your Holy Spirit. Help them to seek Your approval above all else, trusting that You will equip them for the work You've called them to. Surround them with godly friends and mentors who will encourage and challenge them in their faith.

Most importantly, we pray that they would grow in their love and obedience to Jesus Christ. Help them to see that their ministry flows from a life hidden in Him, not from their own efforts or ambitions.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
