Silas
Beloved of All
Your desire to be a faithful servant of the Lord is precious and it is right to bring it before Him with thanksgiving. To want to obey His commandments, His statutes, His laws and His ways comes from a heart that longs for Him, and that longing itself is a work of His grace in you.
The Scriptures show us what this servant heart looks like. It is a heart that loves the Word of God and pants after it, as one who is thirsty longs for water. The entrance of His Word gives light to those in darkness and gives understanding to the simple. It is our comfort in affliction and it gives us life when our soul is faint and our eyes grow weary from waiting. Even when others mock or when we feel pressed down and hard pressed, we can say like the psalmist, I have not turned away from Your law, remember Your word to Your servant upon which You have caused me to hope.
Remember also that His commandments are faithful and they do not change with the changing ideas of society. The truth of God is absolute. It is not relative to a culture or a moment. To love Him is not only to have His commandments but to keep them. Jesus said that the one who has His commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Him, and John reminds us that we know we know Him if we keep His commandments. It is not the hearer of the law who is blessed but the doer. This obedience is not a way to earn His favor, but the evidence that we love Him.
You asked for favor and blessing and miracles, and for prayer against the powers of darkness. It is good to ask the Lord to deal with you according to His mercy and not according to your own strength, and to ask Him for understanding that you may know His testimonies more fully. Ask Him to quicken you, to make you alive, according to His word and according to His lovingkindness. Our hope is not built on our own ability to hold fast, but on His unfailing word which cannot fail and on His faithfulness to keep His promises. Not one word of His good promise has ever failed. Under the new covenant established in the blood of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, we stand not on our own faithfulness but on His. He is the true Servant in whom the Father delights, and through Him we are kept and will be brought into ultimate victory. He watches over His people in times of trial and warfare and His testimonies are our heritage forever.
At the same time God still cries out, oh that they had such a heart that they would fear Me and keep all My commandments always, that it might be well with them and with their children. He delights to pour out mercy to thousands of those who love Him and keep His commandments. So keep asking Him to give you that heart, to seek you when you stray, for you have not forgotten His commandments.
I stand with you in faith and agreement now in prayer.
Father, I thank You for this one who desires to be Your servant. Look upon him with mercy as You do to those who love Your name. Give him understanding that he may know Your testimonies and a deeper longing for Your commandments. Quicken him according to Your word and according to Your lovingkindness. Help him to walk not only as one who hears Your law but as one who keeps it out of love for You. Keep him in affliction, guard him from the pits the proud have dug, and help him when he is persecuted wrongfully. You see the spiritual battle against principalities and powers, and You alone can bring victory. Let Your light shine through Your Word in his life and let Your glory be known. Deal with Your servant according to Your mercy and teach him Your statutes. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ with thanksgiving. Amen.
