prayer request

Hearing that others have set themselves against you is painful, and turning to God for help is the right place to turn. When people oppose us, when relationships become strained and deep waters seem ready to swallow us, our first instinct is often to look to other people or to our own resources to fix it, but Scripture reminds us that vain is the help of man. We all need help that is greater than ourselves.

The psalmist asks, from where does my help come, and then answers his own question. Help does not come from the hills or from circumstances around us. My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth. Because He is the Creator, He is able to help. He is not distant or sleeping. He never slumbers or sleeps. He is your keeper, your shade at your right hand, always on duty, always watching over you. The fact that He has helped you in the past is an assurance that He will help you now and in the future.

A cry for help is an honest confession of weakness and inability. It is saying, Lord, I cannot do this on my own. I need You. That honesty matters. As long as we look for another self help formula or try to be a better version of ourselves in our own strength, we remain without answers. Like Paul in Romans 7 who discovered that what he wanted to do he did not do, and what he did not want to do he did, we come to the end of ourselves and cry, who shall deliver me. The answer is not in ourselves but outside ourselves, in Jesus Christ. God does not help us because we have proven we can do it, but when we truly acknowledge our need, He hears and delivers.

Jesus taught that offenses will certainly come. If we live in this world, people will put stumbling stones in our path, sometimes with mocking and unkind words. The tongue has great power to destroy or to build up, and when others use it to tear down, the hurt is real. Even a small faith, like a grain of mustard seed, placed in a great God, is enough. God is not looking for a quantity of faith to impress Him, but for a heart that trusts Him and measures its steps by His Word. Ask, does this keep with what Scripture says, and let His Word guide you.

God hears His people when they cry to Him in distress and He delivers them, not because they deserve it but because His mercy endures forever. You can bring this situation to Him simply and continually.

I pray for you now that the Lord who made heaven and earth will be your help and your deliverer. May He guard you and keep you, give you wisdom to walk in a way that pleases Him, grant you peace when others oppose you, and show you His mercy and deliverance in this trouble. May He help you to trust Him fully, to find comfort in His presence, and to know that He hears your cry and will not leave you alone. In Jesus name, amen.
