Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart so honestly and for bringing these needs before the Lord. It is good to thank Him for His goodness even while you are asking for help, and God hears each of these requests.
I join you in prayer for quiet, restoring rest, for the health and strength of your wife, for the protection of your loved one, and for the Lord's provision over your finances and the practical need with your car. God cares about these everyday burdens, and He invites us to trust Him with them. Part of that trust is learning patience as we wait for His answer, because waiting develops steadiness in our faith. Ask Him to show you a wise and cost effective solution and to give you peace while He works it out.
You also mentioned the battle against lustful thoughts, and I want to encourage you there. Temptation itself is not sin and it is common to everyone. Even Jesus was tempted, yet without sin. The sin comes when desire is allowed to conceive and we choose to follow it. Every temptation presents a choice, whether to walk according to the flesh or to walk according to the Spirit.
Scripture shows that temptation often comes through the same avenues, the craving of the flesh, the craving of the eyes, and pride. The world around us constantly appeals to those cravings, and the enemy suggests that we can find immediate satisfaction if we step outside God's path. But that promise is empty. Lust cannot be satisfied by indulging it, it can only be starved. The way to starve it is to reckon yourself dead to it and alive to God through Christ, remembering that you have been crucified with Christ and your life is now hidden with Him. You do not have to be mastered by the flesh any longer.
Two practical helps God has given are His Word and your marriage. Hiding God's Word in your heart gives you an answer when temptation comes, just as Jesus answered, It is written. When a thought arises, answer it with truth from Scripture and turn your mind toward what is pure.
And within marriage, God has given a beautiful provision. He intends that a husband find his joy and satisfaction in his own wife, and that this gift be kept within that covenant alone. Scripture encourages a husband to rejoice with the wife of his youth, to let her love satisfy him continually and to be captivated by her alone. There is no real love in turning toward a stranger, only empty lust that fades and brings death. Do not linger on outward beauty that is used to entice, but cultivate thankfulness and delight in the wife God has given you. Drink water from your own well.
So when those thoughts come, bring them quickly to the Lord, confess them, replace them with Scripture, and turn your attention to loving and honoring your wife. Choose to walk in the Spirit in that moment.
Let me pray for you. Father, thank You for Your goodness and mercy. I ask You to grant this brother deep and peaceful rest, to touch his wife with healing and strength, and to place Your hand of protection around his loved one. Provide for his financial needs and give him wisdom to find an affordable and reliable solution for his car. Give him patience as he waits on You. And Lord, give him strength in the battle of the mind. Help him to hide Your Word in his heart that he might not sin against You, to walk by Your Spirit and not fulfill the desires of the flesh, and to find full joy and satisfaction in his marriage as You designed it. Keep him from yielding to temptation and lead him in purity and in Your peace. In the name of Jesus, amen.
