Disciple of Prayer
Please Father, bless my relationship with a woman named ###, who I've known most of my life. Encourage our relationship, bring to a solid foundation, give us security, and let us both wait till marriage successfully. Please encourage her Father to wait till marriage.

We rejoice with you in your desire to honor God in this relationship and to wait till marriage, for this is good and pleasing in His sight. Your request to build on a solid foundation with security and purity aligns beautifully with biblical principles for courtship. We view being a boyfriend or girlfriend as courtship with the goal being marriage to another Christian believer, and we strongly endorse marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman that honors God. We pray that if it is His will, He will lead you both toward a godly marriage that reflects His love and faithfulness.

The Scriptures give us clear guidance for this path. Hebrews 13:4 says Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. And 1 Corinthians 6:18 says Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4. We also remember Psalm 127:1 which says Unless Yahweh builds the house, they labor in vain who build it, and 2 Corinthians 6:14 which says Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity. We encourage you both to ensure you are equally yoked as believers in Christ, to set clear boundaries, to seek accountability from mature believers, and to build your foundation on prayer, the Word, and self control through the Holy Spirit.

We also noticed your prayer was addressed to the Father but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to lovingly share that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God and that there is no other name by which we can be saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, for you will be saved Romans 10:9. It is through faith in Jesus that our prayers are heard and our relationship with the Father is restored.

We now join together and pray for you both.

Father in heaven, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ and thank You for this brother and for the woman he has known most of his life. We ask You to bless their relationship according to Your perfect will. Build their foundation upon You, the solid rock, and give them security that comes from trusting in Your promises. Grant them both strength, grace, and self control to wait till marriage successfully and to keep the marriage bed undefiled. Encourage her heart, Lord, and encourage his heart, to walk in purity, in sanctification and honor, fleeing temptation and drawing near to You. If it is Your will, lead them toward a holy marriage that honors You and reflects the covenant love of Christ for His church. Help them to seek wise counsel, to guard their hearts and bodies, and to grow in love that is patient, kind, and pure. We ask that You make Your will clear to them both and that You be glorified in their lives. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray together and separately, to study the Scriptures together, to involve trusted pastoral counsel, and to keep Christ at the center of your courtship. God is faithful to give you all you need to walk in obedience as you seek to honor Him.

We appreciated hearing your heart for this relationship. Knowing each other most of your lives is a rare gift, and we hear how much you want what you build together to be steady and secure, with a clear commitment to wait until marriage.

That kind of waiting is not easy, even when both people want it. It helps to make it practical and shared rather than just an intention you each hold privately. If you have not already, it can be good to talk openly together about what boundaries will help you both keep that promise, and to invite one or two trusted people, like a pastor or mentor couple, to walk with you and check in honestly. Having that outside support makes encouragement and accountability much more steady than trying to do it alone.

We also hear your care for her, wanting her to be encouraged in this too. Continuing to pursue open, kind communication and to show respect in small daily choices is often how security grows over time.

Father, we lift this relationship to You. Give them both wisdom, strength and peace as they seek to honor You and each other. Build their foundation on patience, honesty and genuine care, and guide their steps according to Your will. Help them to encourage one another well. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Your desire to honor the Lord by waiting till marriage is itself a gracious work, and it is right to bring it before the throne of grace. We have heard your request concerning the woman whom you have known most of your life, and we join you in prayer that the Lord would establish your relationship upon a solid and holy foundation.

To wait upon God is not to wait in despair nor in hesitation, but to wait in hope. The Scripture says, Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart. Waiting upon God is the way to renew strength, for in waiting the soul receives of the Eternal Spirit and learns its own littleness and the greatness of God. May you both be kept in that waiting posture, as servants waiting upon their Lord and as travelers waiting upon their guide, content to remain under His hand till He speaks and directs your course.

Purity and charity are the two great garments of the Christian life, and charity without purity will be of no use, for without holiness no man shall see the Lord. It is therefore a joyful evidence of grace that you would keep yourselves unspotted and reserve that which belongs to marriage for marriage alone. Marriage, as God has ordained it, is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, cemented by mutual love and by choice on both sides, wherein the two become one. It is not a light affinity but a solemn union that reflects the love of Christ for His Church. Pray that your affection may be of that true sort, not hasty nor selfish, but rooted in love to Christ first, and then in love one to another.

We pray thus for you both. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all sufficiently, till He comes and till His purposes are fulfilled in you. May He furnish you with all that you need for the pilgrim life, keep you from temptation, give you security not in one another alone but in Him, and transfigure you from glory to glory till you bear the image of Christ. May He grant you wisdom to build on the rock by prayer, by the Word, by counsel of godly friends, and by keeping your bodies and spirits chaste before Him. May He give to her also a firm resolve and a joyful hope in waiting, and to you a steadfast courage to lead in holiness.

Continue to knock at mercy's door and wait for the reply, as those who know they have audience with the Father through the Lamb. He who is love descending to earth, love paying the great ransom price, love pleading and love soon to come, is able to keep that which you commit to Him. We ask the Lord to encourage you both, to establish your steps, and to bring your relationship, if it be His will, to that holy estate in His own time and for His glory.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
