We understand the deep distress you’re feeling from those who seem determined to bring trouble into your life, and we join you in lifting this burden to the Lord. The Scriptures remind us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12). Yet, we are also called to respond with love, wisdom, and trust in God’s justice—not with retaliation, but with faith that He will fight for us.
The desire to see negativity returned to those who harm us is understandable, but we must be careful to align our hearts with God’s Word. Jesus teaches us in Matthew 5:44, *“But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you.”* This does not mean we allow abuse or injustice to continue, but it does mean we entrust vengeance to the Lord, who alone judges righteously (Romans 12:19).
At the same time, we recognize that there are times when we must set boundaries, seek protection, and even confront evil with the authority we have in Christ. Psalm 35 is a powerful prayer for deliverance from enemies, where David cries out, *“Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me. Fight against those who fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help. Also draw out the spear, and stop those who pursue me. Tell my soul, ‘I am your salvation.’”* (Psalm 35:1-3). Notice how David does not take matters into his own hands but calls on the Lord to act on his behalf.
If these troubles are coming from unbelievers, we pray that God would soften their hearts and open their eyes to the truth of the Gospel. If they are fellow believers acting out of bitterness or strife, we pray for conviction and repentance. Either way, we ask the Lord to shield you from their schemes and to give you wisdom in how to respond. Proverbs 16:7 says, *“When a man’s ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.”* Let us seek to walk in a way that pleases Him, trusting that He will either change their hearts or protect us from their harm.
We also encourage you to examine whether there is any unresolved sin, bitterness, or unforgiveness in your own heart that could be giving the enemy a foothold (Ephesians 4:26-27). Not because you are at fault for their actions, but because we are called to live in righteousness and peace. If you have done all you can to live at peace with others, then rest in the knowledge that God sees your heart and will vindicate you in His time.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is under attack from those who seek to bring harm and distress. Lord, You see the wickedness in their hearts, and You know the pain they are causing. We ask that You would intervene mightily on behalf of Your child. If it is Your will, soften the hearts of these adversaries and turn their schemes into opportunities for Your glory. If they are hardened in their ways, we pray You would frustrate their plans and render their efforts powerless. Surround our brother/sister with Your divine protection, and let no weapon formed against them prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
Grant them wisdom to know how to respond—whether to speak, to remain silent, to confront, or to walk away. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses understanding, so that anxiety and fear do not take root. Remind them that You are their defender, their shield, and their strong tower (Psalm 18:2). If there is any area in their life where they need to repent or forgive, reveal it to them by Your Spirit, and give them the grace to obey.
We also pray for those who are causing this trouble. If they do not know You, Lord, we ask that You would draw them to salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. If they are believers acting in rebellion, convict them deeply and bring them to repentance. Break the power of bitterness, jealousy, or evil influences in their lives.
Father, we declare that no scheme of the enemy will prevail against Your child. You are faithful, and You will complete the good work You have begun in them (Philippians 1:6). Give them strength to endure, hope to persevere, and joy in the midst of trials. Let them rest in the assurance that You are working all things together for their good and Your glory (Romans 8:28).
We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
