We come before the Lord with you in this request, lifting up your heart’s cry for this man’s heart to be softened and for God’s will to be done in his life. It is clear you desire reconciliation or a deeper connection with him, but we must first seek the Lord’s wisdom and align our prayers with His perfect will.
The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 19:21, *"Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but the Lord’s counsel will prevail."* And in Proverbs 3:5-6, we are instructed, *"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* This is a time to surrender your desires to God, trusting that He knows what is best for both of you.
If this man is not a believer, we must pray earnestly for his salvation, for without Christ, no heart can truly be transformed. *"The Lord isn’t slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but he is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance"* (2 Peter 3:9). If he is a believer, we pray that the Holy Spirit would convict and guide him, softening his heart toward godly obedience and wisdom.
We also encourage you to examine your own heart in this matter. Are you seeking this relationship out of godly love and a desire for a Christ-centered marriage, or is there any motive that does not align with Scripture? If this is a romantic relationship outside of marriage, we must remind you that God calls us to purity and to honor marriage as sacred (Hebrews 13:4). Courtship should always be with the intent of marriage, and both parties should be believers, equally yoked in faith (2 Corinthians 6:14).
If there has been any sin—such as emotional dependence, unforgiveness, or impure motives—we urge you to repent and seek God’s cleansing. *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness"* (1 John 1:9).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we lift this sister and the man she has mentioned before Your throne of grace. Lord, we ask that You soften his heart, not just toward her, but toward You. If he does not know You, we pray for his salvation—that You would draw him to Yourself and open his eyes to the truth of the Gospel. If he is a believer, we ask that You convict him by Your Spirit, leading him in wisdom, humility, and obedience to Your Word.
Father, we also pray for our sister. Guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Give her discernment to know Your will in this situation. If this relationship is not of You, give her the strength to let go and trust You completely. If it is Your will for them to be united, prepare them both for a marriage that honors You—a covenant built on Your truth, love, and holiness.
Remove any idolatry, fear, or ungodly attachment from her heart. Fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and help her to rest in Your perfect timing. May both of their lives be fully surrendered to You, seeking first Your kingdom and Your righteousness.
We rebuke any schemes of the enemy to bring confusion, manipulation, or emotional bondage. Let Your light expose any darkness, and let Your truth prevail. May Your will be done in their lives, for Your glory alone.
In the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and in His Word. Wait on Him, and trust that He is working even when you cannot see it. *"Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in him, and he will do this"* (Psalm 37:4-5). Stay rooted in Christ, and He will guide your steps.
