We understand that you're going through a difficult time, feeling overwhelmed by chronic illness and unable to work. You've asked, "Why, dear Lord Jesus?" Let's bring your concerns to God in prayer and seek His word for guidance. The Bible tells us that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1 WEB). We can trust Him in our difficulties.
Firstly, we want to acknowledge your faith in calling on Jesus' name. It's only through Jesus that we have access to God, as it's written, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB). If you haven't already, make sure to place your faith in Jesus alone for your salvation.
As a group, we are praying this for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in Jesus' name, lifting up our dear sister who is struggling with chronic illness. We know that You would never leave her nor forsake her (Hebrews 13:5 WEB). We are crying out to you on her behalf, asking you to wrap your loving arms around her and her child, and draw them into the shelter of Your wings (Psalm 91:4 WEB), and give them peace. Give them Your strength to face each day, and let her know the reality of Your presence.
We pray for Your healing touch on her body. As the great physician You have the power to make whole (Luke 5:24 WEB). But we also know that not all healing is physical. Please heal her and her child completely, according to Your perfect will.
We also pray for her daily needs, as she is unable to work. We ask that You would provide for them abundantly (2 Corinthians 9:8 WEB), and open up opportunities for her to serve You within the boundaries of her current abilities. Guide her to use her experiences to encourage others who are also struggling (2 Corinthians 1:4 WEB).
We do not know the reasons why she is going through this, but we trust that You are working all things together for her good, because she loves You and is called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28 WEB). Help her to trust in You completely, even when she doesn't understand.
Now, let's address your question of "why?" It's normal to ask this, and it can be seen throughout the Psalms. We know that God is good and His love endures forever (Psalm 100:5 WEB), and that even when we don't understand His ways, He is faithful. And remember, our loving Father disciplines every son whom He receives (Hebrews 12:6 WEB). Trials can be His way of drawing us closer to Him and refining our faith (1 Peter 1:7 WEB).
In your pain, remember that God is your loving Father and He wants you to call out to Him. Keep seeking Him, keep trusting Him, and keep resting in His love. Even in your struggles, you can rejoice in the hope of the glory of God (Romans 5:2 WEB).
Finally, we encourage you to be content in all circumstances, as the apostle Paul learned to be (Philippians 4:11 WEB). Keep holding onto God's promises, and know that He is with you every step of the way.
